Blindspot Roundtable: Warning Shot

By  |

After several weeks off for the 2018 Winter Olympics, the NBC drama Blindspot returned with a new episode, mainly focusing on the team trying to get a dangerous virus from being sold on the black market.

Join Leah, Lisa, Roz, Cay and Rueben as they talk about all that took place in the episode; and please share your thoughts in our comments section below:

Reade’s girlfriend Megan is undocumented (convenient given all the current headlines, right?) and he’s been meeting with the State Department guy to help “get” her proper papers. Will all that come back to bite him in the ass?

Leah: I’m glad they finally told us what was going on…and of course this will come back to bite him.

Lisa: I’m glad we finally know what’s up, I just wish that wasn’t the case. It’s definitely out of the headlines but I feel they could have been more creative with the storyline. And yes, it’s definitely going to bite him in the ass.

Roz: Nothing good comes from working around the system, but I do appreciate that we know Meg’s situation now. But I don’t get the impression that Reade is going to use those new documents he has.

Cay: Of course it will end up getting him in trouble – they wouldn’t have brought it up otherwise. Although the Indian rather than a Latina as undocumented is a new twist. Blindspot has never been a show to shy away from hot button issues.

Rueben: I have to join the chorus about being glad that we finally know what’s going on. This show sure does like to keep us hanging on for certain storylines; sometimes having to hang for too long. I, too, think this is going to be a much bigger problem in the end for both of them, especially Reade.

Rich really wanted to go to that Dark World Mardi Gras like party, huh? It wasn’t really surprising that he got his way, right?

Leah: Rich is really the best part of any scene he is in. Not surprising at all.

Lisa: I agree. I knew he was going to get his way and I love it!

Roz: I never doubt that Rich gets what he wants; when he’s determined enough.

Cay: I’m not sure that Rich got to enjoy much of the party, but it was a slick way to make sure that he’d be allowed to go. I’m kind of surprised that none of the FBI team even tried to disguise themselves, other than Jane hiding her tattoos.

Rueben: Yeah, Cay, you make a really good point about the team not disguising themselves more. But, I wasn’t surprised that Rich got his way even if he didn’t get to be at the party for very long. It certainly was clever of him the way he used the situation to his advantage. So like Rich!

NOTE: The girl who stole that virus was actress Molly Bernard, who some viewers may recognize from the half-hour TV Land series Younger.

I think most (if not all) of us had a problem with Nas throughout last season. Did you expect her to do something – like what she did – to potentially get back into the NSA? Were you expecting Zapata to know that Nas was working with CIA Keaton? Do you think she’ll be back?

Leah: I am not surprised by anything she does anymore. Yeah, I like Zapata but I know she is keeping secrets. Does anyone ever stay away on Blindspot? I’m sure she will be back at some point

Lisa: I definitely think she will be back. Zapata was never my favorite but just as she was starting to grow on me, we’re reminded how she keeps secrets. I wasn’t surprised that she knew the truth about Nas.

Roz: Rarely does someone truly leave the show (Shepherd still had a flashback) so I’m not surprised they brought back Nas, nor that she double-crossed the team. I wasn’t expecting that CIA work, but it makes plenty of sense.

Cay: The “truth” about Nas, if that’s all that’s going on, doesn’t seem like that big a deal compared to what it could be. On the other hand, that not so veiled threat to Zapata about Project Dragonfly is interesting. Does it involve Shepherd, or something else entirely?

Rueben: I totally expected her to pull some kind of double cross, but I was thinking it would be much more than what she did. The “theft” was a bit anti-climactic for me. To be honest I was disappointed in Zapata, by keeping yet another secret from the rest of the team. As for Nas, I’d rather her not return, but I don’t think this is the last time we’ll see her. After, like Cay said, there is that Project Butterfly that Nas and Zapata mentioned. What is that?!

What is going on with Avery? Do any of us really care about this character? Do you see this whole storyline as a waste of time or maybe it will pan out to be more interesting/meaningful in the long run?

Leah: To be honest the whole story is a waste for me. There is more than enough going on already.

Lisa: I was hoping this storyline would pan out but it has fallen flat to me. I want to care about Avery but I really don’t.

Roz: I don’t care about Avery at all.

Cay: Yeah, it was exciting while we thought she was dead, but do we need another “Jane trying to connect with an estranged relative” plotline?

Rueben: I couldn’t agree more with all of you. I’m bored with the whole Avery storyline; and they just need to end it – somehow.

Reade proposed. What are your thoughts about that given her un-documentation?

Leah: I guess that is one way to make her status legal.

Lisa: It was sweet but knowing she’s undocumented takes some of the romance away. Like I said, I wish the writers would have gone a different route.

Roz: I mean, it’s one way to get her papers later, but I don’t love it.

Cay: Probably not the smartest thing he’s done, but certainly a sweet thing to do. It may help her legal status, but first she’d have to admit to being illegal, which could hurt Reade considerably.

Rueben: There is a small part of me wondering if there is something way more diabolical going on with Megan – it is Blindspot after all. We were all pulled in by Borden (to an extent) and I just have to wonder if there is way more to Megan than we’ve seen. Maybe I’m over-thinking this?! As for the proposal, it may be sweet and all, but I just don’t feel the love there.

So it would seem Blake (Roman/Tom’s “girlfriend”) was kidnapped. What do you think it is going on there?

Leah: With Tom and her boyfriend and who her father is….I’m surprised this didn’t happen earlier.

Lisa: Yeah it was bound to happen, I’m just surprised it happened under Roman’s watch. He’s going to be in trouble with Daddy. Lol this storyline has kept my attention for sure.

Roz: I’m going to guess that this is a set-up as a test by Crawford to see what he can test from Roman.

Cay: It seems that Blake may not be quite as innocent as she seems. Her scheme with her old friend really makes me wonder how much she knows of what her Dad does and how involved she may actually be. This clearly wasn’t her first rodeo. The kidnapping is interesting. We may see how much Roman is motivated by needing to keep in good stead with her father versus his feelings for her. It’s also interesting that we now know that her father was bankrolling Shepherd. What exactly is Roman trying to do by insinuating himself with him?

Rueben: Exactly, Cay. The whole reveal that Blake’s dad was the moneyman for Shepherd says a lot. Roman’s got an ulterior motive, obviously, but what is his end game? Did he somehow have something to do with the kidnapping because of the guy Blake was trying to “soften” up? There are just a lot of questions about that whole situation, and I hope they don’t linger on it for too long.

The next new episode of Blindspot will air on NBC on Friday, March 9 at 8/7c.
