My Top 13 Choices for October TV

The 2017-2018 fall TV season officially got underway last week. Since last Monday a number of new shows have debuted and even more dramas have aired their season premieres. But there are just as many returning shows and new series set to debut in October. Not to mention some season finales and more, new made-for-TV movies to check out.

Here are my top 13 programming choices for October:

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE

The new CBS drama Wisdom of the Crowd will debut on October 1 at 8 PM. Jeremy Piven stars as visionary tech innovator Jeffrey Tanner, who creates a cutting-edge crowdsourcing app to solve his daughter’s murder, and in doing so, revolutionizes crime solving in the process. The original cop who searched for his daughter’s killer, Det. Tommy Cavanaugh (Richard T. Jones) is recruited to work with him.

On October 2, FOX will debut the new series The Gifted at 9 PM. The series tells the story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. The cast includes Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Amy Acker (Person of Interest), Natalie Alyn Lind (Gotham), Percy Hynes White (Night at the Museum 3), Blair Redford (Satisfaction), Coby Bell (Burn Notice), Emma Dumont (Bunheads), Jamie Chung (Once Upon a Time) and Sean Teale (Incorporated).

RETURN ENGAGEMENT

While I enjoy watching all of the superhero shows on The CW [which will return next month], I am most excited about the season premieres of the following:

The 2-hour third season premiere of Poldark on PBS on October 1 at 9 PM.

The Shannara Chronicles on its new home SpikeTV on October 11 at 10 PM.

Jane the Virgin on October 13 on The CW at 9 PM.

Blindspot on NBC on October 27 at 8 PM.

MOVIES, MOVIES, MOVIES

The Hallmark Channel has become synonymous with made-for-TV movies set for each time of the year (Valentine’s Day, Spring Fling, June Weddings, Summer Nights, Fall Harvest and Countdown to Christmas). The following new movies will air in October as part of their fall harvest films and the start of the network’s big holiday celebration:

All of My Heart: Inn Love will debut on October 7 at 9 PM, finding Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott reprising their roles from the original made-for-TV movie that aired in February 2015.

Love Struck Café will debut on October 14 at 9 PM, starring Sarah Jane Morris (Brothers and Sisters and NCIS) and Andrew Walker (the Hallmark Channel movies The Perfect Catch and A Bride for Christmas).

A Harvest Wedding will debut on October 21 at 9 PM, which will feature Jill Wagner (Teen Wolf and the Hallmark Channel movie Autumn Dreams) and Victor Webster (Continuum and the Hallmark Channel movies Summer Villa and Love Blossoms).

Good Witch: Spellbound will debut on October 22 at 8 PM, featuring the main cast of the TV series in its annual two-hour Halloween special.

Merry Me at Christmas will debut on October 28 at 8 PM, starring Rachel Skarsten (Lost Girl and Reign) and Trevor Donovan (90210, Texas Rising and the Hallmark Channel movie Love on a Limb).

COMING TO A CLOSE

The following cable dramas will be coming to a close over the course of October, and it has been fun while it lasted:

Chesapeake Shores on the Hallmark Channel on October 8 at 8 PM.

The Last Ship on TNT on October 15 at 9 PM.
