On January 5, the new fantasy/sci-fi series The Shannara Chronicles will air its two-hour series premiere (after the return of Teen Wolf) at 10 PM on MTV.
The series is based on the best-selling fantasy book series “The Original Shannara Trilogy” by Terry Brooks, that is set thousands of years in the future in the fictional world known as the Four Lands, telling the story from the second book in the trilogy “The Elfstones of Shannara”.
It follows three heroes: Elf-Human hybrid Wil (Austin Butler from The Carrie Diaries), Elvin Princess Amberle (Poppy Drayton from When Calls the Heart and Downton Abbey) and Human Rover Eretria (Ivana Baquero from Pan’s Labyrinth), as they embark on a quest to stop an evil Demon army from destroying the world.
While the series isn’t expected to follow the book in its entirety, it will find Wil and Amberle on a quest to create a magical tree that serves to banish all Demons from the Four Lands while an Elven army and their allies work to slow a massive Demon invasion.
The series also stars veteran actor John Rhys-Davies (Lord of the Rings), James Remar (Dexter) and Manu Bennett (Spartacus and Arrow).
Thee following pictures of the cast, author Terry Brooks and the show’s executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (the men behind Smallville) were taken at this past July’s San Diego Comic Con. Be on the look-out for videos that were taken during the panel for the show. They will be posted over the course of this week.
Make sure to check out The Shannara Chronicles when it debuts on January 5 at 10 PM on MTV.
