Spring TV Goodness

The TV season got back into full swing last month, but April can’t be overlooked, as there is a boatload of programming to look forward. You can check out the NiceGirls TV calendar at the following link: https://nicegirlstv.com/2010/04/01/the-spring-tv-calendar-and-beyond, but the list below features the shows and made-for-TV movies that I am looking forward to watching throughout the month:

On April 7, the Being Erica season finale will air on SoapNet at 10 PM. I recently discovered this inventive Canadian series thanks to rave reviews by some fellow bloggers and had a chance to catch up on eight episodes from the show’s second season this past weekend. I can only hope that the series is picked up for another season, as no confirmation has been made about that pick-up yet. Fingers crossed that it receives a renewal order.

The Lifetime movie At Risk based on the Patricia Cornwell best-selling crime novel will air on April 10 at 9 PM. While some of the reviews have been less than kind about Andie MacDowell’s acting and the weak adaptation of the novel, I am curious enough to check it out. Plus, this movie gives Rescue Me supporting cast member Daniel Sunjata a chance to take on a leading role and I want to see how he does in this movie. The cast also includes Annabeth Gish, Ashley Williams and Diahann Carroll.

The return of the popular Lifetime series Army Wives will take place on Sunday, April 11 at 10 PM. The series ended with Roxie and Trevor expecting their first child together, Pamela taking her children and leaving Chase, Joan and her unit under heavy fire, Denise and her husband rocked by the shooting incident in their home possibly involving their son Jeremy and Claudia Joy dealing with her newly diagnosed Diabetes. What is in store for all the Army Wives is nearly ready to be told and I’m anxious to see what happens next.

Then on April 12 the season finale of the new CW show Life Unexpected will air at 8 PM. I can only hope that the network takes a chance on this wonderful little show, giving it a second season order. The show may not be gritty or as sexual charged as Gossip Girl or 90210, it is a terrific program that shows people as they really are: flawed. And, for a network that seems to be dedicated to over-the-top antics and unbelievably polished characters, it’s nice to see a show that is real.

NOTE: Repeats of this show will begin airing on the CW starting on April 20 at 9 PM if you’d like to get caught up or relive the wonder of this new show.

The triumphant return of the hugely popular FOX musicomedy Glee will happen on April 13 on its new night at 9 PM. The popular series about the Glee Club at McKinley High School will face steep competition in the form of the final episodes of Lost on ABC. All I can say is, “thank goodness for DVR’s!”

FOX will also air the season finale of its new action drama Human Target on April 14 at 8 PM. I’ve enjoyed the guest stars that have been featured in the show and the eye candy that the show’s star Mark Valley provides isn’t bad either. It will be interesting to see how they top all the action sequences from past episodes too.

Returning to Lifetime again, another Patricia Cornwell novel The Front has been made into a Lifetime movie that will air on April 17 at 9 PM, again starring Andie MacDowell and Daniel Sunjata.

The sci-fi realm has been waiting in anticipation for the full introduction of Matt Smith as the new Doctor on Doctor Who and the American audience will get to see for themselves when the new season of the much-beloved series debuts on BBC America on April 17. Please check your local listings for air time.

While I’m not a fan of actress and singer Hilary Duff, I do like Matt Dallas from Kyle XY and Eastwick as well as Chris Carmack from The O.C. so I will force myself to sit through a recording (as I’ll have another commitment that night – see below for details) of the ABC Family Channel movie Beauty & the Briefcase on April 18 at 8 PM. The movie is based on the book Diary of a Working Girl by Daniella Brodsky.

Skipping back over to the sci-fi realm, the long-delayed four-hour remake of the movie Riverworld will finally air on Syfy on April 18 at 7 PM. (This will be my other commitment that night). The movie stars Tahmoh Penikett from Battlestar Galactica and Dollhouse and Laura Vandervoort from Smallville and V.

Lastly, the new ABC thriller series Happy Town – which has, unfortunately, been maligned by a number of critics and bloggers – will debut on April 28 at 10 PM. Despite the less than complimentary reviews, I want to watch at least a few episodes (if I can get through them) before I pass judgment. It also doesn’t hurt that Amy Acker from Angel and Dollhouse, Steve Weber from Wings and Sam Neill are among the stars.

I would also like to state that while March was an insanely busy month for me because of attending a number of TV-related events throughout the month, April isn’t completely devoid of activities. In fact, I will be attending the Paley Center’s salute to the USA Network series White Collar tonight, and will have coverage of the panel here at NiceGirls very soon. There are several other events to attend later in the month, but more on those soon here on my blog.
