LIVE FROM MYSTIC FALLS:THE VAMPIRE DIARIES SEASON 6 FINALE PARTY & SHOW RECAP
I am so glad I was able to watch (and live tweet @Lisa_NGTV & @NiceGirlsTV) this amazing season finale live in Mystic Falls with a bunch of TVD fans! It was so cool to sit on the rooftop of The Mystic Grill and see the famous clock tower. We were lucky enough to have Michael Malarkey (Enzo) do a Q & A before the screening and Chase Coleman (The Originals) played live music after the show. It was incredible! Thank you to Vampire Stalkers and Atlanta CW for an awesome night! What an amazing emotional episode!
Let me say that this is the toughest recap I have ever had to write. Every minute of this episode was great and there is no way to sum it up. This was the best episode of The Vampire Diaries in years and a great but emotional way to say goodbye to Elena. I strongly suggest you watch the episode if you haven’t already; this episode is a must for any TVD fan. With that being said, grab some tissues and let’s dig in!
After Kai pulled his evil re-appearance at the wedding last week, we begin with Damon freaking out because Elena wouldn’t wake up even with his blood, so they took her to the hospital. That’s when Kai finished the job. He stabbed himself in the neck so he would die and so would all of his family. Poor Jo! Poor Alaric! I can’t imagine your bride dying at your wedding. I don’t thick Alaric will ever be the same after this.
Liv was also on her death bed and told Tyler that she loved him. Aw! She told Tyler (who had glass stuck in his stomach and would probably die) to kill her so he could trigger his werewolf curse and have a second chance at life. She wanted to do this for him. He became very emotional and didn’t want to do it. They kissed one last time and Liv put Tyler’s hands over her mouth and she died. Talk about a sacrifice! Tears were already falling at this point and we weren’t even 10 minutes into the episode! Sheesh! Tyler was healed and he is a wolf again! Watch out vamps!
Enzo took Stefan (who was unconscious from the wedding thanks to Kai) to Mama Salvatore who was still looking for her “family.” Stefan told her that Kai probably lied to her because that is what he does. He asked her what she gave him in exchange for his help and she said her blood! So, Tyler is a werewolf again and Kai is a Heretic/witchy-vamp!
Alaric was putting Jo’s body in the trunk when Kai came outside. OMG! This was the most heart wrenching scene! Tragic! Alaric had a gun and tried to shoot Kai and when it didn’t work, he turned the gun to his head and pulled the trigger! Thank God he used all the bullets on Kai, but it broke my heart that Alaric was ready to kill himself. So sad! Tyler came in and saved the day by biting Kai. Go Tyler! That was the one thing Kai was not prepared for.
At the hospital, the doctors told Damon they couldn’t find anything physically wrong with Elena. He called Bonnie and she came to check on her BFF. Now prepare yourselves for this- Kai told Damon and Bonnie that he put a permanent irreversible spell on Elena that linked her life to Bonnie’s. As long as Bonnie was alive, Elena would be in a coma like state. The only way for her to wake up is if Bonnie dies. Whoa! Kai wanted revenge on Bonnie and he got it. Kai knew that Damon would have to choose to kill Bonnie to save Elena, but if he did Elena would never forgive him for killing Bonnie. Check mate.
Also at the hospital, Caroline asked Stefan if he’d be alright while Elena was gone because they were soul mates. Stefan agreed that they were soul mates, but she was put in his life also to be the only person he ever met who believed Damon was worth loving. Aw! Her faith in Damon brought the Salvatore brothers back together and he realized even though he loved her, he needed him more than he needed her. Seriously! More tears!
Bonnie went to the church to confront Kai. Kai figured out that magic had to play a role in werewolves’ venom, so he tried a little magic that blew me away. He siphoned the magic out of his werewolf bite and healed himself. As crazy as Kai is, that was pretty badass! He picked up Bonnie and threw her across the room. Damon got there just in time; Bonnie was banged up pretty bad and didn’t look like she was going to make it. Kai told Damon to choose Bonnie or Elena. Damon kissed Bonnie on the forehead, apologized to her and then left! What? He can’t let Bonnie go out like that! The crowd in Mystic falls was screaming at Damon during this scene. Like the crowd, Kai wasn’t happy with that decision either. He didn’t want Damon’s decision to be that easy. Kai said he could have at least flipped a coin. Then on cue, Damon came up behind Kai, ripped his head off and said, “Heads it is!” Woo hoo! Best line of the night! Bye bye Kai! Then he saved Bonnie! He knew Elena wouldn’t want Bonnie to die and he made the right choice.
When Kai died, Mama Salvatore found her “family.” Kai did a cloaking spell on them and that’s why she couldn’t find them before. Oh joy, we’ll be dealing with the heretics next season after all.
Now it’s really time for tissues and wine! Elena is resting in a coffin at casa de Salvatore where she is protected, and everyone got the chance to say goodbye to her by letting her inside their minds, and let me tell you it was brutal! Elena told Caroline and Bonnie to start writing in a journal so one day she could read about their adventures. She said goodbye to Caroline (who she would see again) and then she said goodbye to Bonnie. Bonnie spent her whole life saving Elena and now it was her turn to save Bonnie. Aw! She asked Bonnie to do their favorite magic feather trick one last time and it was so sweet, sad, and perfect!
Elena told Matt that she sees him as a loyal and good man who will fight for others like him and that she thinks they might see each other again someday. Elena told Alaric that he had to drown in his pain from losing Jo, to be able to beat it. He will be ok again and they embraced. Jeremy is back and I was so excited to see him! Elena got emotional when it came to her brother and he told her that he was happy and doing what he was born to do (hunting vamps that is which he failed to mention). Elena told Tyler to get out of Mystic Falls and embrace his wolf side and let it be the thing that makes him extraordinary. I really hope Tyler shows up in New Orleans on the Originals next season.
With every goodbye it got harder and harder and by the time Elena got to Stefan and Damon I was a serious mess. In Mystic falls, all I could hear were cries and sniffles around me. Woo-sah!
Elena told Stefan that he saved her life and she loved him very much. She didn’t think she would ever be happy again after her parents died but he changed her life. She told him she looked forward seeing what he does with his life while she’s gone and to be happy. The last thing he said to her was, “I’ll see you Elena.”
Elena told Damon that she knew he would do the right thing even if it meant living without her for awhile. She told him to live his life and be happy. And then the most amazing thing happened. They danced in the middle of the street and it was wonderful. It was choreographed beautifully.
While Damon and Elena were dancing, Stefan went to Caroline and told her that loving her changed his life. He said he knew she needed to heal, but when she was ready he would be waiting for her! Yay! I am shipping Steroline hard right now and I loved this scene!
Damon and Elena were finishing up their dance and said “I love you” to each other. He dipped her and they kissed their last kiss. It was perfect! They weren’t too sad. It was more of an “I’ll see you later” than a goodbye. It was so well done.
Now you know they couldn’t end it there on a sweet note. They flashed in the future and showed Matt driving around in a police car in a torn apart Mystic Falls. It looked like the Walking Dead came to Mystic Falls and ripped the town apart. Damon was standing on top of the famous clock tower (which I was sitting right in front of and it was awesome) looking down. What in the world is going on? The end!
Wow, I can’t stress enough how great this episode was. It was a great swan song for Nina Dobrev and she will be missed on the show. I also want to wish Michael Trevino the best of luck, because he is leaving TVD as well. I can’t imagine the show without them, but we will see what they have in store for us next season (and from how they left us hanging, it looks like a lot to look forward to). Thank you for checking in with us on NiceGirlsTV and we will see you back here for season 7 of The Vampire Diaries in the fall!
