Did You Know: TV and Movie Trivia

By  |

Last month, I restarted this “Did You Know” segment, focusing on some trivia items about cast members of Hallmark Channel movies and TV shows.

This time around I’m going to focus on trivia items that have to do with the long-running ABC series Castle and the even longer running CBS procedural NCIS and some movie trivia too.

Did you know…

that actors Seamus Dever and Misha Collins appeared in the same episode of NCIS?

The episode was entitled “Singled Out” and it aired on October 3, 2006. It was the third episode of the show’s fourth season. The episode was about a Navy Lieutenant who disappeared from the rear of a stolen SUV. It was soon learned that she got caught up with a really bad guy who was tied into rounds of speed dating for which the Lieutenant had been participating.

The guy who stole the SUV was Justin Farris, played by Collins – best known as Castiel in the long-running WB (then The CW) series Supernatural – and the really bad guy was Graham Thomas, played by Dever, best known as Detective Kevin Ryan in the long-running ABC drama Castle.

Did you know…

that Tyler Hoechlin and David Ramsey appeared in the same episode of Castle?

The episode was entitled “Fool Me Once…” and it aired on October 12, 2009. It was the fourth episode of the show’s second season. The episode investigated the death of an Arctic explorer who was supposedly killed during a polar expedition, but instead his body was found inside an apartment. That explorer was “working” with a school teacher on his expedition presentations to elementary school kids. In the B-story of this episode, Castle’s daughter Alexis was working with a new violin teacher.

The new violin teacher was Dylan Fulton, played by Hoechlin – best known for his role of Derek Hale in MTV’s Teen Wolf and for his role of Clark Kent (aka Superman) in Superman & Lois while the elementary school teacher was Jim Wheeler, played by Ramsey – best known for his role of John Diggle on Arrow. Ironically, Hoechlin and Ramsey would end up working together within the Arrow-verse.

Did you know…

the late, great Chadwick Boseman, Black Panther himself, early in his career, appeared in the Freeform family drama Lincoln Heights?

It was in 2008 that Boseman was introduced in the fourth episode of the third season, playing Nathaniel “Nate” Ray, the “cousin” of Eddie’s (series lead Russell Hornsby, who went on to star in the NBC sci-fi series Grimm) former girlfriend Dana, who he dated when he was 16 years old. Nate had been in the Army, serving in Iraq but he came home with PTSD. In truth, Nate was in fact Eddie’s son, who had known nothing about. Boseman appeared in a total of 9 episodes of the series; and it was 4 years later that he landed the lead role of Jackie Robinson in the box office movie 42, which set him on a course to play other legendary people like James Brown and Thurgood Marshall as well as his career-defining role of T’Challa in the Marvel Universe.

Did you know…

that Elvis and Dune actor Austin Butler was first approached as a 13-year-old at the 2004 Orange County Fair by a rep from a background-acting management company; and that was how he got started in the entertainment industry.

Eighteen years later, after appearances as a teenager in such kids shows as Hannah Montana, iCarly and Zoey 101 and later shows like Life Unexpected, Switched at Birth, The Carrie Diaries and The Shannara Chronicles, he took the world by storm in the Baz Luhrmann-directed, epic film Elvis. And, he has since appeared in the limited series Masters of the Air, Dune: Part Two and the upcoming The Bikeriders.

Make sure to come back next month for another installment of “Did You Know.”
