A Million Little Things Roundtable: “crystal clear”

By  |

A Million Little Things returned this week on ABC after a two-week break.

Here is the official synopsis for the episode (season 4, episode 5) entitled “crystal clear”:

Gary’s attempt to make things right for Sophie comes with unexpected repercussions. Eddie realizes Nicole needs help in her own ways, and Maggie connects more with Jane. Katherine discovers something new about herself.

Nice Girls Cay and Rueben share their thoughts on this episode [spoiler alert]:

Cay:

Wow, there was a lot going on in this episode! So relieved that Gary’s secret is no longer although it still seems a bit unlikely that he will get away without legal repercussions. Peter’s demands to keep quiet were pretty predictable, but I wonder if he’ll change his tune now that his wife has left him (called it!). I would love to get a better sense of what convinced her other than just his deleted text history.

I certainly don’t blame Sophie for her response to Gary, but I do feel a bit bad because up until he went to Peter’s house, he was actually really trying hard to be supportive – it is no small feat for a single person to move into a friend’s house and take care of their teenagers for months in a pandemic! As for Darcy being gone, I really hope she stays gone! That storyline was done.

Really didn’t see Eddie deciding to be Nicole’s knight in shining armor! But, maybe good for him to spend some time thinking about someone other than himself. However, I’m going to be really annoyed if they end up in a relationship at some point! So, that leaves Eddie back living with Gary, but now he’s supporting Gary and not the other way around. Again, good for him to have someone other than himself to focus on, and he certainly owes Gary a significant debt for getting him through rehab and giving him a place to live after he broke up with Katherine. That said, if I was Gary, I’m not entirely sure that I’d necessarily want a friend moving back in to “help” me.

Speaking of Katherine, good on her for giving herself some space to explore things that are a lot different from what we assume was a pretty button-up traditional upbringing. I would like to see her figure herself out on her own for a bit, rather than jumping into dating anyone. It seems like first she was her mother’s child, then she rebelled by dating and marrying Eddie, then she was his wife and Theo’s mother but it’s not clear that she’s ever been herself. I’d love to see her stay single for a while and find her true self independent of others.

So, Rome is totally going to get busted for showing his movie. No doubt about it. It’s kind of a frustrating plotline because it seems like it all could have been prevented had he found a better agent and had he actually paid attention to the licensing agreement for his film. He seems like he shouldn’t be that naïve at this point! I’m not sure how I feel about Regina going away for a few months. I really hope that it provides a mechanism for them to get her back on top of her career and bring her and Rome more happiness rather than a way to split them up again!

How does Maggie keep falling in with all these hot, charming guys? Granted, this one by virtue of being famous and way too smooth, seems doomed to cause her plenty of grief eventually.

Rueben:

Yes, there was a LOT going on in this episode!

We both called it that Gary and Christopher were going to have to come clean, but I’m really worried about what will happen when they get caught because I can’t see them just getting away with it all – although with Sophie taking the podcast down, and more importantly, Peter’s wife walking out on him, and the threat that she will make sure he never teaches again, that’ll keep Peter out of the picture from here on out (I hope!).

What I wasn’t expecting was Regina getting that catering offer from Shanice or that she and the other cook at Crocodilzes to leave together. I get it that this is a great opportunity for Regina, but why does it have to be in Florida? Why do they have to keep Rome and Regina apart for that amount of time? How will this affect their relationship? Or will it even affect their relationship. I just want to see good things happen to them. Rome will definitely get caught for showing his film (it was in the clip for next week that he will be getting served papers!)

I totally agree with you, Cay, that Katherine needs to stand on her own for awhile, despite any feelings she might have for Shanice. The answer isn’t always finding someone else. I fully believe in living a healthy life ON YOUR OWN, fully independent. I just hope that Katherine follows that path – even if just for a short amount of time.

I liked the moment between Maggie and the guy in the station’s kitchen. As a big fan of Veronica Mars, it was great to see Ryan Hansen playing someone who doesn’t seem smarmy. Their witty banter was kinda fun, and maybe this will be a diversion for her for awhile until they finally (fingers crossed!) get her and Gary back together. I never wanted to see them apart anyway so I hope, hope, hope that will happen.

I was taken a little aback by Sophie’s remark to Gary that he should “stay away for good.” I get it that she’s mad – and she has every reason to be angry at him – but to say that to him I was a bit harsh. I hope they can eventually find their way back from that.

The one thing I really didn’t see coming was Eddie giving his apartment over to Nicole and her son so they can escape her abusive husband. I was NOT expecting that at all. I was pleased to hear him say that he was “letting go of his anger” [FINALLY!] so there is that, at least. I really don’t want to see him have a relationship with Nicole though, as you suggested. I mean it’s not that far a stretch for them to write that in, but I hope they don’t follow that cliche storyline.

I was very pleased, also, to see Jane tell Maggie that her radio show was going to stay on the air. I really think this is a great fit for Maggie, and I truly believe that she could help a lot of people through that.

Lastly, it was nice to see Danny even if it was only in brief video chats with his sister.
