My Top Choices for May TV

By  |

There are plenty of viewing options on TV next month with lots of finales airing, a number of made-for-TV movies debuting, a few newcomer dramas and several dramas coming back on the air either with new episodes or a new season.

The following are my top choices for May TV:

WELCOME TO THE TV JUNGLE

Jupiter’s Legacy, based on the graphic novels by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely, will debut on Netflix on May 7. The series is a multi-generational American superhero epic that follows the world’s first generation of superheroes who received their powers in the 1930’s. In present day, they are the revered elder guard, but their superpowered children struggle to live up to the legendary feats of their parents. The ensemble cast includes Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb, Ben Daniels and Matt Lanter as some of the “elder guard;” and Andrew Horton and Elena Kampouris as two of the next generation.

LET’S ALL GO TO THE MOVIES

The following made-for-TV movies will debut in May:

Just for the Summer on UPtv on May 2 at 7 PM, starring Brant Daugherty (Pretty Little Liars and Dancing With the Stars alum) and Hayley Sales (Cedar Cove and the Hallmark Channel’s The Perfect Bride movies). English teacher Penelope Campbell (Sales) loves her annual summer vacations visiting her Grandma Dot, despite Dot’s constant attempts to set her up with every single man in town. This year, she bumps into Jason Humphrey (Daugherty), none other than her childhood sweetheart, who is still as handsome and charming as ever. It’s a little awkward at first but the conversation soon turns to Jason’s own Grandma Sophie, who keeps doing the same to him. In order to evade the efforts of their matchmaking grandmothers, they make a pact pretending to date each other, but will the old sparks return?

Sweet Carolina on the Hallmark Channel on May 15 at 8 PM, starring Lacey Chabert and Tyler Hynes. Marketing executive, Josie, returns home when she becomes the unexpected guardian of her niece and nephew. While there, she reconnects with Cooper, her high school boyfriend.

Wicked, based on the paranormal romance by best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout, on Passionflix on May 27. Set in New Orleans following evil fae-fighting Ivy (Anna Maiche) and the mysterious Ren (Liam Hall), a man who captures Ivy’s attention like no other.

BACK TO THE FOLD AND SO LONG FOR NOW

Superman & Lois will be coming back with new episodes from its debut season starting on May 18 at 9 PM on The CW while the 7th season of Good Witch will premiere on the Hallmark Channel on May 16 at 9 PM.

The following season finales will air during the month (please keep in mind that any of these finale dates could change due to programming issues):

When Calls the Heart on the Hallmark Channel on May 9 at 9 PM;
The Nevers on HBO on May 16 at 9 PM;
Prodigal Son on FOX on May 18 at 9 PM;
All Rise on CBS on May 24 at 9 PM;
9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star on FOX at 8 and 9 PM; and,
NCIS on CBS on May 25 at 8 PM.
