Dragon Con 2022 Highlights

By  |

It’s spooky season and all I want to do is go back to Dragon Con. I have a case of the DC blues! Every year Dragon Con is a blast and I leave with so many great memories and new friends. There is nothing like it! Cosplayers (the best in the world), fans, artists, and gamers flood the streets of downtown Atlanta for one hell of a weekend. Not only do I have fun, but I learn some really cool stuff too. Here are a few of my highlights from Dragon Con 2022.

Walk of Fame

The walk of fame is always a highlight at Dragon Con. This is where you can meet your favorite guests and get autographs or pictures. It’s so fun to walk around and see all of the celebrities and fans having once in a lifetime moments. This year I had a blast at the walk of fame and met Laz Alonzo, Ryan Potter and Steve Gonsalves and Jason Hawes from Ghost Hunters.

I have been a fan of Laz Alonzo for years. I was so excited when it was announced that he was returning to Dragon Con this year (I missed him in 2021). He is so cool and shared with us that he filmed until 2:30am and came straight to Dragon Con. What a trooper! He also said that Season 4 of The Boys is going to start out with a bang! You can catch him as Mother’s Milk on The Boys now streaming on Amazon Prime.

I was so excited to meet Ryan Potter. He is awesome as Beast Boy on Titans. He was so nice and he takes great selfies! You can stream Titans now on HBOMax. #DCTitans

My Dragon Con isn’t complete unless I see my Ghost Hunters! I see Steve almost every year and always try to go to one of their panels. This was the first time I was able to meet Jason and he is awesome. They have the best stories about their paranormal experiences and I can’t believe they have been doing this for 18 years! You can catch Ghost Hunters now streaming on  Discovery+.

Panels
Saturday 9/3 – I was a panelist on the Horror Track’s Candyman: 30th Anniversary Panel at 8:30pm and it was so much fun! We discussed all 4 Candyman films (even the two we usually don’t speak about lol). We discussed how influential Candyman was by shining the light on racism and how without Candyman, we might not have the brilliance of Jordan Peele’s Get Out and his spiritual sequel Candyman (2021). It was a great discussion and tip of the hat to a classic horror film that gave many of us nightmares. Thank you to everyone that came to chat all things Candyman with us.

Sunday 9/4- I was a panelist on the Urban Fantasy Track’s  First Love, First Blood: A First Kill Fan Panel  and it was a blast. We discussed the first season of the Netflix show.  There was so much to unpack, sibling rivalry, family drama, forbidden love, a series of firsts and new beginnings. It was a vampy chat that went by too fast. Even though First Kill has been cancelled, we are hopeful it will get picked up by another network because after the cliffhanger at the end of season 1, we need season 2 and another panel next year!

The Buffy Horror Picture show is epic and was my favorite event all weekend! I can’t believe I have never been in all the years I’ve been going to Dragon Con, but I promise I won’t miss it again. The Urban Fantasy Track puts on a “Rocky Horror” style performance of the Buffy musical episode where talented actors act out the episode alongside the episode playing. The audience sings along and it is fabulous. I attended the Sunday (9/4) panel at 5:30pm It is a must for any Buffy fan!

Favorite TV Cosplay

Dragon Con is known for the best cosplay and there are always WOW moments that break the internet. For us at Nice Girls Tv, we love to see the TV themed cosplays and here are a few of my favorites from this year.

Charity

Dragon Con raised about $190,000 for its official 2022 charity, Open Hand Atlanta. Open Hand’s mission is to help underserved individuals prevent or better manage chronic disease through tailored nutrition interventions, which include a variety of therapeutic meal plans as well as nutrition counseling and coaching delivered by an experienced team of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists.  With the dedicated support of over 14,000 volunteers, they currently prepare, pack, and deliver over 5,500 meals per day in Metro Atlanta and rural Georgia.  That is amazing. Way to go Dragon Con Attendees!

Dragon Con will return in 2023 for the five-day Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 31 to Sept. 4.
