A Salute to Rising Stars

By  |

It’s that time again to salute those actresses who are on the move, actresses who deserve a little extra attention for their latest work, those actresses who are rising stars. Landing that crucial role in a TV movie or guest appearance in a successful show or film makes all the difference for aspiring actors.

Let’s take a look at the next group of actresses who viewers should keep their eyes on:

Talia Ryder

When twentysomething actress Talia Ryder was 12 years old, she and her family went to see the Broadway production of Matilda the Musical. That play inspired Talia and her younger sister Mimi to audition for the show; and in 2015 Talia got her breakout role, playing Hortensia in the Broadway cast of that very stage show, and prompted a move from Buffalo to the Big Apple by her family.

She followed that up in 2016 by being part of a cast of 75 kids in the short film Broadway Kids Against Bullying: I Have a Voice that supported the organization Nobully.org. A few years later she played the role of Skylar, the cousin of the lead character Autumn in the critically acclaimed indie film Never Rarely Sometimes Always, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2019. That same year she landed a role as part of the Jets Chorus in the Steven Spielberg adaptation of West Side Story.

Talia then graduated from high school in 2020; and in 2021, she had a starring role in the Olivia Rodrigo music video “Deja Vu.” She can now be seen in the starring role of Clarie in the Netflix movie Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between that debuted online last week.

She also has two projects in post-production. One is the Do Revenge that includes among its cast Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner, Riverdale cast member Camila Mendes and Stranger Things alum Maya Hawke. The second is the ballet-themed drama Joika starring Diane Kruger (National Treasure and The 355).

You can watch Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between here.

Mia Isaac

Mia Isaac grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and made her professional acting debut in 2019, appearing in a movie called Lovestruck that included among its cast the one and only Kathleen Turner (Romancing the Stone), Rachel Bilson (Hart of Dixie and The O.C.), Beth Riesgraf (the Leverage franchise) and Andie MacDowell (Groundhog Day and TV’s Cedar Cove).

She appeared in two short films in 2020: The Quaranteens and The Cancel Club, the latter of which she also had a writing credit. She followed that up by directing, writing and starring in the short film You Could Have Done Better last year.

Mia will next be seen starring in the Amazon Prime Video movie Don’t Make Me Go that is set to debut this Friday. This is another movie for which she has a writing credit, and she also plays the daughter of John Cho.

Her next projects include the comedy-drama film Not Okay that is set to star Zoey Deutch (the box office movies Vampire Academy and Before I Fall) and Teen Wolf alum Dylan O’Brien; and she is set to appear in the “in the works” Hulu limited series Black Cake.

Make sure to check out the movie Don’t Make Me Go on Amazon Prime on Friday, July 15.

Using her favorite online handle, Rueben is an East Coast-bred gal who is now a permanent Californian and a lifelong tv-oholic. She watches at least 25 TV shows a week, goes to the movies as often as possible, listens to music every waking moment, reads every day and “plays” on the internet every chance she can. Some of her current favorite TV shows are Outlander, Sweet Magnolias, Wednesday, The Mandalorian, The Equalizer, Fire Country, Miss Scarlet, Hudson & Rex, SkyMed, The Rookie, Cobra Kai, Virgin River, The Witcher, Leverage: Redemption and School Spirits. She is looking forward to the long-awaited return of Bridgerton, is curious about the debut of Orphan Black: Echoes and the 3rd and final season of Sweet Tooth coming in June, and the season finales of the abbreviated 2023-2024 TV season.
