The 11th Annual ATX TV Festival in June

By  |

The 11th Annual ATX TV Festival will be held from June 2 to June 5 in Austin, Texas. The festival’s focus is on “the celebration of the medium: looking back at its history, where it is now, and where it is headed.” The festival “consists of panels, screenings and events where attendees can hear from the actors, writers, directors, creators, showrunners, music supervisors, casting directors and studio executives involved in all stages of bringing their favorite series to the small screen.”

Among the panels that will be held during the 4-day event will include TV trivia, script reading, a discussion on book adaptations and a discussion on pop culture. There will be reunions for Parenthood, Scrubs, the creatives behind Justified and even a rewatch of Friday Night Lights. The TV dramas Evil and Westworld will also have panels, and the new shows Walker Independence, Tom Swift, Monarch, Dark Winds and Angelyne will be featured as well.

Another panel that will be featured is Baron + Toluca, starring original Roswell cast members Brendan Fehr and Majandra Delfino. The project, in fact, was conceptualized, written, directed and produced by Fehr and Delfino. Back in 2017, a series of cryptic tweets hit the internet, showing Fehr and Delfino standing together in front of Vasquez Rocks (a well-known Roswell location just like the picture above). From there fans created a campaign to find the project a home.

Fehr and Delfino will play Jake Baron and Toluca Mendez (respectively), who are former stars of a cheesy 90’s WB show called ‘Alien Advocates’ [very meta indeed] who find themselves in a real-life paranormal mystery after appearing at a second-rate comic con.

For original Roswell fans, there will be easter eggs throughout this stand-alone show that is neither a reboot, remake or a reimagining. This ‘love letter to (Roswell) fans’ has an incredible fanbase that has supported the project for five years now.

In 2020, fans funded the filming of the pilot episode. In fact, two weeks after the launch of the crowd-funded Indiegogo campaign, Baron + Toluca was fully funded and the pilot was filmed last fall. And now that pilot episode will premiere at the ATX Festival.

Ironically, Fehr and Delfino were part of Roswell’s 15th anniversary panel at the ATX Festival in 2014, which was later deemed “the catalyst for them to reunite and join forces for their new show.”
