A Million Little Things Roundtable: “slipping”

By  |

Here is the official synopsis for this week’s episode (season 4, episode 18) of A Million Little Things entitled “slipping”:

Maggie and Gary go to great lengths to entertain an unexpected visitor; Regina fears Tyrell is moving too quickly with a new love interest, and Rome supports a student who is ready to reveal their truth.

Nice Girls Cay and Rueben share their thoughts on this episode [spoiler alert]:

Cay:

I called it on Tyrell and Val! Didn’t expect it to happen so quickly, though. He really better not end up breaking her heart! Hopefully it will be a mechanism to bring Vali and her mom back together. It’s nice seeing Regina in a good place and I really like her relationship with Tyrell.

It was disgusting, but not unexpected, to see how many other students Peter assaulted! Hopefully the group will further empower Sophie and help all the girls move on. Hopefully good for Anna, too, to have to confront what happened under her nose and for her to be able to explain that she truly had no idea what Peter was up to. What’s with the mysterious girl, though? Is she possibly responsible for Peter’s death, or does she have other issues going on? Could be a red herring, but it seems unlikely as it allows them to continue the Peter storyline past what would otherwise be good closure.

Rome calling into Maggie’s show was corny and seemed unrealistic. Surely it was meant to be heartfelt and also humorous (the “other Tom Brady”) but it just made me feel embarrassed for him, even though his intentions were good. Why call in live and not just text Maggie? Hopefully Maggie’s advice turns out to be good. But we all know that life as an LGTBQ+ teenager is never going to be easy.

Katherine is having quite the year! She realizes she is bisexual, gets a “live-in girlfriend” and now is in a love triangle with a well-known tattoo artist and a Hollywood celebrity. Pretty predictable how that was going to go once Shanice showed up again!

I’ve never really understood Maggie’s relationship with her parents. Maybe because it hasn’t been so clearly shown as it has been with Regina and her parents, for instance. But it is nice to see her taking some steps to repair her relationship with her mother.

Rueben:

Yeah, the writers made it a little too predictable that Tyrell would hook up with Vali. That being said, I hope they are good to each other and that neither of them breaks the other’s heart. It was quite comical to watch Regina catch them in the act, but at least we didn’t have to see any awkward encounters.

Yes, I am curious about that mysterious girl at the meet up with Sophie. It was clear from her introduction that there was more to her story than what was being said. You could be right, though. She could be involved in his death or at least something suspicious. Why was she following Anna?

I agree with you that it was nice to see Maggie and her mom finally have a decent moment together. The whole visit at Maggie’s office at the radio station was just all kinds of uncomfortable and weird. At least Gary was honest with Maggie’s mom about how Maggie feels toward her. Perhaps this will lead them toward repairing their relationship, at least a little bit.

I felt really bad for Maddix, as he was accepted at school – despite Rome’s fears about his coming out on picture day – only to return to school the next day dressed as a girl because “she went home” and obviously her true self wasn’t accepted at home. I hope they continue to focus on Maddix’s story for what little time is left in the season.

It was inevitable that there would be a problem in Greta and Katherine’s relationship, I just wasn’t expecting it to be Shanice. I didn’t think we’d ever see anything more of her, not because I didn’t like her character – in fact, I found her to be an interesting person despite us not getting to spend too much time with her – but I just didn’t expect the writers to bring her back. Rome’s movie didn’t happen, end of story – at least that was my way of thinking.

And, you are correct. Rome calling into Maggie’s show to get advice about Maddix was – while comical to watch – just plain strange. Did he really need to talk to her while she was on the air? It just seemed unnatural.

We are nearing the end of the season so I hope the writers will bring Anna’s storyline to an end, and have Eddie move on to someone better; that Sophie will grow up a little more now that she has met some of Peter’s other victims, and that we don’t have any torturous cliffhangers for any of the characters. We shall see.

Cay's family thinks her obsession with pop culture is "not normal". Normal is boring!
