A Million Little Things Roundtable: “60 minutes”

By  |

Here is the official synopsis for this week’s episode (season 4, episode 17) of A Million Little Things entitled “60 minutes”:

Gary hits multiple roadblocks while trying to meet an important deadline; Eddie makes a surprising discovery at Katherine’s house, and Rome struggles to connect with an impressionable group of young artists.

Nice Girls Cay and Rueben share their thoughts on this episode, which was directed by series regular Allison Miller (who plays Maggie) [spoiler alert]:

Rueben: Finally, an episode that I sort of liked. Well, at least the parts that didn’t include Gary’s awkward car ride with Sophie to get his sperm sample to the doctors. UGH! That was just gross to me. Sure, it gave Gary and Sophie a chance to talk about her feelings toward the memorial and kind words that were posted by other people about Peter’s passing, but much like the ridiculous scavenger hunt for Danny and Sophie, couldn’t the writers have found a better way for Gary and Sophie to connect and talk? And, I’m still not sure if now is the right time for Maggie and Gary to be trying for a baby. I think they need to get their on-again relationship on stronger ground before they bring a child into the mix, but perhaps with his low sperm count now being introduced into the storyline maybe that will delay “things?”

I really enjoyed the scenes with Rome and his students. His first day was off to a really bad start until he announced the “do over.” And, what he did to help Maddix (aka Madison) had to feel good for him, as he wanted to do right by the students. I hope those kids keep up with the class and give him a chance to teach them about more than just how to make a documentary.

And then there were the scenes between Val and her daughter. It was a little predictable that Tyrell would go to the daughter to talk to her about her estranged mom, but it was nice that in the end the daughter was willing to give her mom 5 minutes. Hopefully this will help them slowly start to get back on track.

As for Anna and Eddie, we knew Anna was lying about something. I just have to wonder if she was really drunk and passed out at home or is that just a convenient lie too? We know from previous episodes that she was drinking too much, but was that really the case on the day that Peter’s body was found? I know we are both ready for this relationship to be over so I’m curious if this will be the eventual straw that breaks the camel’s back or not.

We are heading into the final stretch with only a few more episodes so I’m curious to see what happens next. Will there be more on Peter given that Sophie clearly posted a copy of her podcast on that memorial site? Will the detective be back to talk to Anna? Will she and Eddie get caught in more lies? How will things pan out for Rome’s classes? Will Val be able to rebuild her relationship with her daughter?

Cay:

I could have definitely done without the “race for the semen” plot, which feels ridiculous to even type. I liked that Sophie and Gary got a chance to talk, but this seemed so contrived. I’m guessing it was supposed to be awkward/funny, but it was just “ugh” for me. It is an interesting plot point that they worried so much about Maggie’s fertility because of chemo, but didn’t think of Gary’s. But, I’m with you, they need to prove themselves worthy of other committments before bringing a baby into it. Maybe I’m old fashioned, but if you say that you’ve found the right person and are going to go through all this trouble to have kids with them, why not marry them? It’s like they think a baby will be LESS lifechanging or demanding than an engagement and marriage?!

No big surprise that Rome got off to a bad start with his students – he can be a wee bit rigid at times! I’m happy that he finally read the room and made some changes. Good for him that one of his students decided to trust him with their secret so early on! I’m sure he will do whatever he can to help them.

So, if Anna is “just” an alcoholic and she didn’t kill Peter, then who did? It seems like way too much of a coincidence for him to just have an “accident” on his own, especially right after he makes an appearance at the restaurant. I guess in theory there are plenty of possibilities if other students were emboldened by Sophie’s podcast.

I like the Val/Regina/Tyrell plotline. Of course he would go talk to Val’s daughter and of course she’d listen to him – you don’t ignore guys that hot trying to have deep emotional conversations with you. We never see Tyrell with any women, wonder if they might consider having him spend more time with Val’s daughter?
