My Top 14 Choices for June TV

By  |

It’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway done with 2021, especially after the tumultuous year we’ve experienced. Thankfully, if you are an avid TV viewer – like we are here at NiceGirlsTV – summer programming is just has plentiful as the rest of the year so we have a lot to look forward to watching.

The following are my top 14 choices for what is to come in June:

BACK FOR MORE

The second season of the Hulu drama Love, Victor – a sequel (of sorts) to the box office film Love, Simon – will air on June 11.

COMING TO AN END

Out of the finales that will air in June, I am most excited to see what the following shows have in store for their fans:

New Amsterdam on NBC at 10 PM on June 8;
A Million Little Things for two hours on ABC at 9 PM on June 9; and,
Younger, coming to an end for good after 7 seasons, on June 10 on both Hulu and Paramount+.

NEW ADDITIONS

There are a number of new dramas that will debut in June, and the following are the ones I most want to see:

Netflix will debut Sweet Tooth on June 4. This futuristic series is about a lovable boy named Gus, who is half-human and half-deer, who sets out on a perilous adventure across a post-apocalyptic world, searching for a new beginning with a gruff protector. James Brolin is the narrator; and cast members include Nonso Anozie, Will Forte and Dania Ramirez.

Tom Hiddleston is back as the one and only Loki in the Disney+ series that will debut on June 9. The Marvel franchise series takes place after the events of the box office movie Avengers: Endgame, focusing on the God of Mischief as he steps out of his brother’s shadow. Other cast members include Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Owen Wilson and Richard E. Grant.

The CW will debut The Republic of Sarah at 9 PM on June 14. The show focuses on the small country town of Greylock, New Hampshire that is upended when a massive vein of coltan – an incredibly valuable mineral used in tech – is discovered under the town. A big corporation, of course, swoops in with plans to extract the mineral and wipe the small town off the map until Sarah Cooper (relative newcomer Stella Baker), a rebellious high school teacher, vows to stop them by declaring independence for the town of Greylock. The cast will include Luke Mitchell and Megan Follows.

MOVIES, MOVIES, MOVIES

There are a lot of movies set to air on the networks and streaming services throughout June, and these are my top choices:

Over on Hallmark:

You Had Me at Aloha will debut on the Hallmark Channel at 9 PM on June 5, starring When Calls the Heart alums Pascal Hutton and Kavan Smith.

The Baker’s Son will debut on the Hallmark Channel on June 12 at 9 PM, starring Dancing with the Stars competitor Brant Daughtery and 50 Shades cast member Eloise Mumford.

Her Pen Pal will debut on the Hallmark Channel at 9 PM on June 19, starring Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD Mallory Jansen (she was the life-model decoy Aida) and Jansen’s Galavant co-star Josh Sasse.

To Catch a Spy will debut on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries at 8 PM on June 20, starring The Baker and the Beauty star Nathalie Kelley, Arrow and Chicago Med alum Colin Donnell and Donnell’s real-life wife Patti Murin.

Over on streaming:

The box office movie In the Heights will simultaneously debut in theatres on HBO Max on June 11. Based on the award-winning Broadway play from Lin-Manuel Miranda, the movie is about a bodega owner (Hamilton alum Anthony Ramos) has mixed feelings about closing his store and retiring to the Dominican Republic after inheriting his grandmother’s fortune. The ensemble cast includes Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, Jimmy Smits, Stephanie Beatriz, Marc Anthony and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The sci-fi movie Awake will debut on Netflix on June 9. After a devastating global event wipes out all electronics and eliminates people’s ability to sleep, a former soldier may have found a solution with her daughter. The ensemble cast includes Gina Rodriguez, Ariana Greenblatt, Frances Fisher, Shamier Anderson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Barry Pepper, Gil Bellows, Finn Jones and Sebastian Pigott.

Over on UPtv:

The Wedding Ring on June 6 at 7 PM, starring Frankie Drake Mysteries lead Lauren Lee Smith and Nikia alum Dillon Casey.

Our full June calendar that will cover dramas (new, returning and those that are coming to an end) as well as made-for-TV movies and even some box office movies that will air throughout the month will be available this Thursday.
