Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist: “Zoey’s Extraordinary Double Date”

By  |

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist‘s aired a new episode from its second season this week. Let’s first find out what this episode was about.

Here is a synopsis for this week’s episode entitled “Zoey’s Extraordinary Double Date:”

Zoey attempts to throw all her energy into her relationship, but things get complicated when a double date doesn’t go as planned.

Join Nice Girls Roz and Rueben as they share their thoughts on this latest, new episode of the second season [spoiler alert]:

Roz:

I think this episode does a bunch of difficult work to get Zoey to realize what has happened this year and why that’s been a difficult situation. Everyone is seemingly moving on (Max has a new girlfriend and maybe is moving to New York), Simon’s not sure of what he needs to do at the office, Maggie is making good progress on moving on without Mitch, but Zoey’s still trying to be the same as before.

From that opening number in the therapist’s office to all of the other songs, I feel like Zoey is still trying to stay the same, though it’s clear she can’t.

Not telling Simon that she’s got this power is a huge sign that she’s still not ready to be as honest with him as she was with Max. I think that spells some impeding doom for that relationship.

Rueben:

There was so much going on in this episode! So many feels. From the opening number in the therapist’s waiting room (with Glee’s Becca Tobin sitting next to Zoey, by the way) to Perry’s moving revelation in the stairwell at Mo and Zoey’s apartment building to that incredible dance number at the Beta Breakers race [I loved that Simon was dressed as Prince – or perhaps he was Grimace like Mo suggested] – and the fact that Max didn’t participate in that heartsong moment – to Max’s “New York State of Mind” and then to Deb and Maggie dueting over all the money Maggie won (can’t wait to see if they show us the cruise they go on), it was just SO much to take in.

But, let’s take a moment to talk about the revelation that Zoey isn’t really dealing with all of the loss: first her dad, then Joan leaving and now Max possibly leaving to go to New York with Rose. That’s a lot of loss for her to deal with, and she’s obviously not dealing with it at all; and it’s going to affect her relationship with Simon and do more harm than good with her relationship with Max. I think it might be time for Zoey to come clean with Simon on her ability or else she could really lose him for good.

Can we just take a second to say it’s about time that Tobin and Mackenzie have a make-out session and how silly Leif and Tobin reacted to that news? Priceless!

I also felt bad for Perry, as he knows he is gay but he still seems unprepared to be on the other side of it all. Mo has made his way through it all, but Perry isn’t there yet. This could, sadly, be the end of that burgeoning relationship because Mo isn’t going to go backwards.

I missed seeing Emily and David, but hopefully they were taking the time – off-screen obviously – to get Emily the help she needs. It would be nice to see some movement forward for them before the season ends.

May I say that I knew what Zoey was wearing (her static electricity sweater) while everyone else was guessing the wrong thing each time. What does that say about me? Hang on, I don’t want to know.

Just as an aside, I can’t wait for next week’s episode, as we get to take a trip back in the past to see all of the characters at the start of their time at SPRQ Point, and we get to see Mitch while he was still healthy.

I also think we need Mandy Moore to direct more episodes, as each scene just flowed so effortlessly that it was like watching a stage play come to live on the small screen. Loved it!

Despite her better judgment, she enjoys shows about the shallow sides of her home city, but will also find time to watch iZombie, Jane the Virgin, and much more.
