9-1-1: 3 Highlights of “Broken”

By  |

This week the 9-1-1 system went down, and everyone had to go old school. The system wasn’t the only thing in need of repair though. Here’s the three aspects of this week that I really enjoyed.

Bobby and Michael

Bobby is scoring points right and left with Athena’s kids, but it backfires when it rubs Michael the wrong way. When Harry gets in trouble, he runs to Bobby, and Michael lashes out. But, these two men are about the most level-headed low-key guys on Earth, so it didn’t take long for them to hash it out. Michael got to vent his frustrations, and Bobby admitted that some of what he was saying was right. There are bound to be bumps in a blended family, but it’s nice to see these two men dealing with frustrations, emotions, and maybe a little envy in a mature, rational way. Definitely a co-parenting win.

Hen’s Miracle

I feel like Hen’s been flying a little under the radar lately, and as great as she is in a supporting role, I love seeing her front and center as well. This week she was desperate to save a new mother, and you can’t help but feel that as a mother herself she was connected to this one in ways she might not otherwise be. I enjoy seeing Hen be witty and a little sly, but it’s nice that we see a full range of emotions sometimes.

Maddie and Chimney

This is what we were all waiting for, Maddie and Chimney’s first date. Maddie was back to work, and Chimney was helping his team from sick leave at home, but both were preparing for the big date. But, healing isn’t easy, and in spite of what she says, Maddie might need a little more time. It’s a little frustrating that we’re still waiting to see the two of them really become a couple, but it’s very healthy and a good example of how both people need to be ready for a relationship to work. Chimney has really grown, and he’s happy to give her the time she needs. Take notes, fellas.

Next week: a going-away party for a bank manager turns into an emergency, and then a myster, as the first responders are accused of pulling off a daring heist.

9-1-1 airs Mondays at 9/8c on Fox.

Cara spends way too much time thinking about subtext, and the puns are always intended. When not watching TV, she can generally be found with her nose in a book.
