My Top Choices for April TV

By  |

The TV season is nearly at an end and with that are the early finales of a number of dramas including the following:

This Is Us on NBC on April 2 at 9 PM
Private Eyes on ION on April 7 at 9 PM
God Friended Me on CBS on April 14 at 8 PM
The Rookie on ABC on April 16 at 10 PM
Supernatural on The CW on April 25 at 8 PM
NCIS: Los Angeles on CBS on April 28 at 10 PM

There are two new CBS dramas set to debut next month, including:

The Code on April 9 at 9 PM. The show seems to be much like JAG so I’m not sure how much I’ll like it since I was a HUGE fan of the NCIS processor, but it’s got a pretty great cast, which features China Beach alum Dana Delany, Blindspot alum Luke Mitchell and Copper alum Ato Essandoh [among others].

The Red Line on April 28 at 8 PM follows the lives of three vastly different Chicago families whose stories of loss and tragedy intersect in the wake of the mistaken shooting of an African American doctor by a white cop. Since the show stars Noah Wyle of ER and The Librarians fame I’m all in.

Then there is the much anticipated 6th season premiere of The CW post-apocalyptic series The 100 that will be back on April 30 at 9 PM.

Lastly, there are four new Spring Fever Hallmark Channel movies, including the following:

True Love Blooms on April 6 at 8 PM, starring Sara Rue as Vikki, who runs a community garden that is threatened by Chace (Jordan Bridges from Rizzoli & Isles), a developer who wants to replace it with condos. Determined to stop him, Vikki goes to his office with a peace lily, hoping to help the businessman see green in a different way. While he’s taken by Vikki’s drive, Chace says the project will go on, notwithstanding her petitions or protests. However, wanting to prove he’s not a villain, Chace takes Vikki to a construction site, where she sees how it’s a source of pride to him and all the workers involved. But despite seeing the other’s viewpoint, they remain at a stalemate. Hopefully they will find a way to hurtle their impasse and find true love.

Bottled with Love on April 14 at 8 PM, starring Bethany Joy Lenz (One Tree Hill) as Abbey, a career-focused executive from Boston who decides in a moment of impulsiveness, to pour her feelings out and admit her desire to find love, in an anonymous letter she seals in a bottle and tosses into Boston Harbor. Months later, the bottle washes ashore in Maine and is discovered by Nick (Andrew Walker from When Calls the Heart), son of the CEO of Everett Valley Farms – the company where Abbey works and is about to secure the biggest deal of her career. When Nick is called home to help with his father’s company, he decides to contact the mystery woman with the only information he has – an email. Without knowing each other’s identity, Abbey and Nick begin an online relationship which becomes a budding romance, while at the same time, they are being forced to work together on a project where they are not getting along.

Easter Under Wraps on April 20 at 8 PM that features Fiona Gubelmann (The Good Doctor) as Erika, Marketing Director at Cavendish Chocolates, who goes undercover to see why sales have declined and learns from handsome chocolatier Bryan (Brendan Penny from Chesapeake Shores) automation has replaced quality. Later, at the museum, Erika is saddened to see the replica of the Cavendish egg, and is inspired by Bryan’s Easter egg sketches to go retro and bring back the legendary confection! Excited, the two pitch the idea to board members, who know Erika is undercover. Too bad Bryan sees her photo at a Cavendish event, and feeling duped, wonders if he should accept a job offer from a rival company.

Love Takes Flight – the latest Hallmark Hall of Fame – on April 27 at 8 PM. The movie follows Dr. Lizzie Beauman (Nikki DeLoach from Awkward) is a single mother and hospital administrator determined to attract enough world-class doctors and treatment options to make her hospital successful enough to build a wing for patients’ families to be able to stay together while healing. Lizzie’s five-year old daughter, Quinn, suffers from an insulin disorder and Lizzie knows the demands on working families who have a sick loved one to care for. Lizzie has spent years doing her best construction building walls around her own expectations: no fun and no spontaneity here as the best-lived lives are created through discipline and order. But all that changes when new EMS pilot Charley Allen (Jeff Hephner) comes into Lizzie and Quinn’s lives. Charley challenges the constrictions Lizzie places on herself, especially, her fear of flying. And Charley learns something from Lizzie about the patience it takes to nurture relationships, especially between Charley and his dad whose relationship has been strained since his mom passed away. The day comes when Charley and Lizzie must come together as a team, each performing at the highest skill level to save a transplant patient. In the process, Lizzie and Charley may be able to heal themselves and their loved ones.

Mark your calendars!
