Salute to Rising Stars

By  |

It’s once again time to salute those actresses who are on the move, actresses who deserve a little extra attention for their latest work, those actresses who are rising stars. Landing that crucial role in a TV movie or guest appearance in a successful show or film makes all the difference for aspiring actors.

Let’s take a look at the next two actresses who viewers should keep their eye on:

Lana Condor

Lana’s first role was playing Jubilee, one of the kids at the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters who was friends with the younger versions of Jean Grey and Scott Summers, in the 2016 box office film X-Men: Apocalypse; and then she followed that up with a role in the Mark Wahlberg flick Patriots Day, based on the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and its aftermath.

Last year she appeared in the small screen Lifetime made-for-TV movie High School Lover that starred James Franco and Francois Arnaud (Midnight, Texas and Blindspot).

But it was her lead role of Lara Jean Covey in the hit Netflix original film To All Boys I’ve Loved Before, which debuted on August 17 and co-starred Noah Centineo (The Fosters) and John Corbett (Northern Exposure and Sex and the City), that really caught viewers’ attention.

This December she will be seen in the box office movie Alita: Battle Angel, which stars Jennifer Connelly, Michelle Rodriguez, Christoph Waltz, Jackie Earle Haley, Mahershala Ali and Rosa Salazar. And next year she will be part of the ensemble cast in the Syfy action-thriller series Deadly Class, which is based on the comic book series of the same name that stars Doctor Strange alum Benedict Wong.

Alice Lee

Alice is an actress, singer and songwriter who got her start on the soap As the World Turns and guest starring roles in TV shows like Smash, The Mindy Project, Faking It and K.C. Undercover. She also had roles in regional productions of Heathers the Musical, Spring Awakening and Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. She has also appeared in episodes of Switched at Birth, Sideswiped, and Splitting Up Together.

But it has been her turn as Monica on Take Two, which stars Rachel Bilson and Eddie Cibrian, that has gotten viewers’ attention this summer; and she’ll be appearing alongside Stranger Things alum Shannon Purser and The Fosters alum Noah Centineo in the upcoming Netflix original film Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, which will debut online on September 7.
