Lucifer: Quintessential Deckerstar Roundtable

By  |

Season 3, episode 23 – Quintessential Deckerstar

It’s definitely May sweeps and things really came to a head on this week’s Lucifer. Maze and Pierce put the next part of their dastardly plan into action, Lucifer continued to be his usual while trying to figure out why Chloe seemed so uninterested, and Charlotte got involved with the case of the week as she tried to redeem some previous actions. And then it all took a rather unexpected turn…

Join Cay, Leah, Karen, and Lisa as they debate the episode and add your thoughts in the comments!

Lucifer didn’t seem to be doing himself any favors in the Chloe relationship department but then when he finally decided to tell her the truth she seemed quite receptive. Do you think her comment “you aren’t [the Devil] to me” means that she has actually known his true identity all along? Or something else?

Cay: Just when I was getting annoyed that once again we have Luci being completely dense and annoying, he changed his game plan. And finally stopped being the douche that he accuses Dan of being. I interpreted her comment that she does know, but really doesn’t think of him that way so she’s never made a big deal of knowing.

Leah: After being so stubbornly clueless I can’t imagine she actually believes he is the devil. Dr. Linda is aware and in tune and she had to be shown his true face to finally believe him.

Karen: I got all swoony at that line. I still don’t think she’s fully admitting she “knows” she’s actually the real Lucifer, but maybe somewhere deep down she knows.

Lisa: Lucifer got me with that line too. However, I don’t think she really knows. I think that she assumes that he is saying that because he has a dark past, but I don’t think she truly understands that he is the devil.

Thoughts on Amenadiel’s self-judging theory? Was the reason his wings left and came back due to him, or outside factors?

Cay: I kind of wonder if being worthy of a mortal dying for him (whether from his perspective or God’s) lead to him getting his wings back. Or did he will them back himself to take Charlotte to heaven?

Leah: I’m not sure on this one. When Dr. Linda was in mortal danger (last season?) he was able to slow time in order for her to get to the hospital. Now he has his wings to get Charlotte to heaven. I will be interested to see if this wing thing “sticks”.

Karen: I think getting his wings back may have been helping Charlotte redeem herself, and seeing how far she came – making that speech at her old firm – shows the distance. I know it was a diversionary tactic, but what she said was also very real to her. She knows what she was doing was wrong, and left that life behind.

Lisa: Hmmm…I think it has to do with Charlotte’s redemption like Karen said, but I don’t know if his wings are back for good. I feel like it might be temporary. We shall see.

Did you think that Maze would go through with hurting Amenadiel?

Cay: For a few minutes, I thought it could get really dark and spin things off in another direction. But thankfully she couldn’t do it. But what happens now with her, and with Pierce? It seemed like Pierce drugged her to keep her from obstructing him killing Amenadiel but what happens when she wakes up? And what do you use to drug an immortal, anyway?

Leah: Nah – she may not be in a good place right now but she wouldn’t have hurt Amenadiel. I feel like part of her issue with being on earth is her feelings for him and in turn his feelings for Dr. Linda. Lash out…sure. Hurt him….no.

Karen: I kinda did. I wouldn’t put it past her this season. I feel like she may not be redeemable. However, if anyone can make her see reason, it’d be Amenadiel.

Lisa: I didn’t think she would, but I never thought she would hurt Trixie’s feelings either so nothing will surprise me from her at this point.

Charlotte has taken on a large role in the series recently. How shocked were you that she died to save Amenadiel?

Cay: Did not see that coming at all. Although in hindsight, it was an interesting twist that could lead to some very interesting storylines to come.

Leah: I didn’t see it coming but I honestly am not sure I care. I’m having some issues with this season and her character is part of it. I’ve only really liked her the last few episodes. So it figures that she is now dead.

Karen: It was also a surprise to me, but it was a decent plot point. It makes sense in his arc, and Charlotte had already lived past her “due date”. I hurt for Dan though.

Lisa: I totally didn’t see it coming. I didn’t care about her character at all, and finally I felt like they found a good storyline to make her character relevant and Bam! they kill her. I was so shocked by that and I felt so bad for Dan.

This episode felt like a season finale, but it wasn’t.

Cay: It’s kind of nice that we’ll get some sort of closure sooner rather than later, but what will they do to top this for the finale?

Leah: I can’t imagine what is next with the way they have suddenly ramped up.

Karen: There’s still a lot of Cain storyline to get to, and Maze as well, but dammit, I need Maze to get FINISHED. I feel like they wrapped up the wrong storyline this week.

Lisa: I have no idea where they are going to go next, but I feel like whatever they do, I’m going to need a glass of wine while I watch the season finale for sure.
