Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: “The Honeymoon” {Roundtable}

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. aired a new episode on Friday night, focusing on The Invincible 3 trying to take down the HYDRA weapon, a face-off between Ruby and Daisy, and a couple of unexpected reveals.

The synopsis of the new episode entitled “The Honeymoon” is as follows:

“While an agent’s life hangs in the balance, Fitz, Simmons and Yo-Yo attempt to neutralize a weapon that could play a role in Earth’s destruction.”

Check out what Karen, Rueben and Roz had to say about what took place:

How convinced are you that Fitz, Simmons, and Yo-Yo are *really* invincible?

Karen: As the season gets further and further in, I’m less sure that they can’t be killed. Fitz is truly the only person that believes that destiny cannot be changed, although Jemma feels like Deke is her proof. That only means that she’ll be the one to survive, since I think she’s probably pregnant already. That is, if Fitz’s postulation is incorrect, and destiny can be subverted. Jemma seems to want to change the future, and yet she uses the surety of its outcome to flirt with death. I get a bad feeling about it.

Rueben: I think Simmons truly believes they are invincible, but as you said Karen, Fitz seems to be the only one of the trio who believes the future cannot be changed. I think Yo-Yo may start to question things because, but since she saw herself in the future she has that certainty UNLESS things change so drastically in the weeks to come that that future is completely wiped out.

Roz: There’s only so far that I can go in ONLY using Deke and the old Yo-yo as proof. At some point life can be more than fixed points, so I doubt they’ll stay invincible for much longer. Fitz seems more defeatist than Simmons or Yo-Yo, though, which could be a key for later.

So… Deke has a thing for Daisy. That’s new. Did you sense that development coming?

Karen: WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?!? Don’t get me wrong, it was cute to see him all moony over her, but dude, she is not going to go for it any time soon. I’d kinda ship them to be honest.

Rueben: Nope, didn’t see that coming at all. It was very comical watching him be all moony; something he clearly would NEVER do if not drugged out of his mind. I agree that Daisy will never go for it, but I won’t be able to look at the two of them together in quite the same way again.

Roz: I swore I saw something in that future that hinted he thought she was cute. I’m more shocked about it too until now to see it officially verbalized.

Ruby’s gone off the reservation. How do you think this might play out?

Karen: This is NOT a good thing. Mama Hale deserves it, but Ruby going rogue is just crazytown ready to happen. She’s mega unpredictable, and doesn’t care who she takes out in order to carry out her Daisy-killing agenda. I can’t predict anything when it comes to little!Hale.

Rueben: Yep, she’s gone completely off the deep end, and I have a feeling it’s either going to get her killed (please, please let that happen) or she’s going to become even worse if the clips for the next episode of her getting in the chamber are any example. ARGH!! I have a feeling that it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Roz: Without Creed to be the test subject, Ruby going in blind could be awful for her but great for the team.

Ivanov was controlling the “army”? Now that he and Ruby are gone, is Hale weakened enough to take out completely?

Karen: I’m not sure. She’s lost just about everything at this point, which means she’ll be grasping. Desperation makes a person do some very extreme things. She still has the alien co-conspirator, does that mean she’ll drink the elixir and go all ragey? Is she gonna bring aliens in to help now that she’s alone?

Rueben: Once she gets out of Ruby’s room, I’m sure she will contrive a way to get back in charge. Just because she doesn’t seem to have Ivanov and Ruby under control, doesn’t mean she’ll won’t figure out a way to reign everyone in again. And, you’re right Karen, she has the aliens in her corner – for all the betterment that is going to do everyone on Earth.

Roz: Hale still has minions to do her work (see Talbot) so I doubt she’s too weak to keep this going.

May laid down some hard truths for Coulson. What does this mean for him moving forward?

Karen: She said “I love you,” and oh crap… this is just reinforcing my belief that he’s going to die by the end of the season. She said Daisy’s not ready to take over either. Whoops. That means Daisy’s gonna have to take over, right? Also, Yo-Yo actually told Fitz & Simmons that they were going to have to allow Coulson to die, so things are building. I don’t see him being long for this world.

Rueben: I gasped when May said “I love you,” as I wasn’t sure if she meant it as a declaration of outright LOVE [it’s not like she displays her emotions easily] or the built-up love that you have for someone who you’ve spent most of your adult life working alongside. Either way, it seemed to me to spell his doom, and that breaks my heart!

Roz: He’s accepted his fate, and I don’t see him being too worked up about Daisy being ill-prepared or May’s declaration. It’s more work to get everyone else to believe it.

Talbot is now a robot for the cause. What’s happening there?

Karen: Manchurian Candidate anyone? Of course they’d put a failsafe in place. Because evil doers. He’s inside the good guys’ organization now too, and lord knows what he’s gonna do next.

Rueben: I just about freaked out over that scene. I SO wasn’t expecting that to happen, and yet it made complete scene given how long they held in captivity. After the fact, it was too simple to think that they didn’t “do” something to him during all that time rather than JUST getting information out of him. This is not going to end well at all.

Roz: I like The Manchurian Candidate, so I know it won’t end well at all.

Anything else?

Rueben: How about Mack and Piper performing that surgery on Deke? I was really quite impressed that they were able to handle it all via the lighthouse instructions.

How do you feel about what went down in the episode? Did you see the twist with Talbot? Do you see the Invincible 3 being invincible for much longer? Please share your thoughts in our comments section below.
