Castle: Teasing 7×22 “Dead From New York” – **SPOILERS**

By  |

“Dead From New York” – When Sid Ross, the powerful creator of a long-running sketch comedy show is killed, Castle and Beckett are called to investigate. But as they delve into the victim’s life and the colorful world of “Saturday Night Tonight,” they uncover a shocking secret that may explain Sid’s murder. Carly Rae Jepsen is featured as a musical guest, on “Castle,” MONDAY, MAY 4 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. Also, Jaleel White plays Mickey Franks, a larger-than-life sketch comedy star with a tendency toward outrageous — and possibly homicidal — behavior.

Guest Cast: Carly Rae Jepsen as herself, Jaleel White as Mickey Franks, Gregory Harrison as Danny Valentine, James Eckhouse as Gene Vogel, Joy Osmanski as Liz Bell, Eden Malyn as Tina Tamino, and Mark Rolston as Kurt Van Zant.

“Dead From New York” was written by Terence Paul Winter and directed by Jeannot Szwarc.

ABC released this episode as a screener, which was a shock to me, because it seemed light and fluffy. They usually save screeners for the heavy, earth-shattering, super anticipated episodes. But hey, who am I to complain?

Lemme start my preview by saying that I absolutely *hate* stunt-casting. We’ve only got two episodes left in Season 7, and the penultimate is rife with, “Hey look, it’s Carly Rae Jepsen singing! And URKEL!”

But wait – you don’t know where this is headed. I really liked it! Yes, that’s right ABC, you made me like a quirky stunt-casted episode. I really, really, really, really, really, really, liked it.

There are a couple of cute little easter eggs, one that would definitely fit into a last or second to last season episode – as a bit of a sneaky peek behind the curtain. Some meta humor, a few digs directed at itself, and then some just for us.

It’s cute, and funny, and the case is actually quite good – even if there are a couple of twists that Kate was too smart to fall for… but hey, I can hand wave with the best of ’em.

There’s also a side story with Martha, and I just adore Susan Sullivan, so getting to see a little focus on her this season was a big plus.

So guys and gals, get ready for comedy sketches, singing, dancing, hair porn, high heels, bullet-proof jackets and watching our favorite pair solve mysteries with a side of humor and banter. And yes, some of that might have been quite hint-y in nature. 🙂

“Dead From New York” airs MONDAY, MAY 4 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Her current and past projects involve television shows like "Chuck", "Castle", "Orphan Black", "Farscape", "Supergirl", "Lucifer" and many others. She's an avid gamer, reader, & collector of all things shiny - and while you may not think those things go hand-in-hand, they sometimes do. So don't ask her about how many pets she has in Warcraft. (or how shiny they are).
