Shows You Should Add to Your Binge Watch List

By  |

We all have our favorite “go-to” shows that we love to watch over and over again whether it is over the holidays, when you’re own a stay-cation or even just to pass the time on a free Saturday.

But what about the TV shows that you may have always meant to watch, but just never got around to it? What about the shows that should be on your binge-watch list for that rainy day?

The following list are just some of my personal favorites that I like to recommend:

Firefly

Firefly – It goes without saying that this short-lived, 14-episode series created by Joss Whedon that aired on FOX during the 2002-2003 TV season is a fan favorite. Since its debut the show has grown into an international sensation with extremely dedicated fans all over the globe, who have participating in countless fundraisers, role-playing activities, conventions and so much more. Firefly is also one of the few short-lived TV shows to be taken to the big screen in the form of the 2005 box office film Serenity. The show featured the following cast members: Nathan Fillion (Castle), Gina Torres (Suits), Adam Baldwin (Chuck), Morena Baccarin (Homeland and Gotham), Alan Tudyk (Suburgatory), Jewel Staite (Stargate Atlantis), Sean Maher (Make It or Break It), Summer Glau (Arrow) and the legendary Ron Glass (the classic series Barney Miller).

Being Erica

Being Erica – This Canadian series ran for four seasons from 2009 to 2011, airing approximately 50 episodes during their run. The series focused on the life of eclectic Erica Strange book editor and eventual book publishing company co-owner (Erin Karpluk), a woman whose therapist Dr. Tom (Michael Riley) was able to send her back in time in order for her to deal with the regrets in her life, reliving those events and even sometimes changing them. Some notable cast members and/or guest stars throughout the series included Devon Bostick (The 100), Tyron Leitso (the Hallmark Channel movie My Boyfriends’ Dogs), Sebastian Pigott (Bomb Girls and Revenge), Brandon Jay McLaren (Falling Skies and Graceland), Anna Silk (Lost Girl), Dillon Casey (Nikita), Sarah Gadon (Dracula Untold), Graham Greene (Dominion), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Jadyn Wong (Scorpion).

Max and Logan (Dark Angel)

Dark Angel – This two-season long FOX drama aired from 2000 to 2002, putting future screen actress Jessica Alba and soon-to-be-NCIS star Michael Weatherly on the map with TV viewers. The series was set in the post-apocalyptic Pacific Northwest where the genetically-enhanced Max Guevera (Alba) worked as a bike messenger and did her best to hide her abilities from Manticore, the secret government group who created her. The show included the following cast members Jensen Ackles (Supernatural), Ashley Scott (Jericho), Richard Gunn (Granite Flats), Valerie Rae Miller (Reaper), Martin Cummins (When Calls the Heart), Alimi Ballard (NCIS and CSI) and Kevin Durand (Lost and Vikings).

Veronica Mars

Veronica Mars – The show aired for three seasons, the first two on the now defunct United Paramount Network (UPN) and the final season on The CW (which was the newly created network, combining UPN and The WB), running from 2004 to 2007. It centered on teenage sleuth Veronica Mars (Kristin Bell), who along with her private investigator dad Keith (Enrico Colantoni), dealt with cases ranging from dog nappings to cheating teachers to grisly murders. Much like Firefly, a box office movie hit the big screens last year thanks to the extremely dedicated and financially supportive fans. The series included the following cast members Tina Majorino (Legends), Ryan Hansen (Party Down), Jason Dohring (Moonlight), Percy Daggs III, Tessa Thompson (Copper), Michael Muhney (The Young and the Restless), Chris Lowell (Enlisted), Julie Gonzalo (Dallas) and Francis Capra as well as recognizable faces like Max Greenfield (New Girl), Charisma Carpenter (Buffy and Angel), Amanda Seyfried (Les Miserables), Alona Tal (Supernatural and Burn Notice), Ken Marino (Marry Me) and Aaron Ashmore (Smallville and Warehouse 13) [among countless others].

Using her favorite online handle, Rueben is an East Coast-bred gal who is now a permanent Californian and a lifelong tv-oholic. She watches at least 25 TV shows a week, goes to the movies as often as possible, listens to music every waking moment, reads every day and “plays” on the internet every chance she can. Some of her current favorite TV shows are Outlander, Sweet Magnolias, Wednesday, The Mandalorian, The Equalizer, Fire Country, Miss Scarlet, Hudson & Rex, SkyMed, The Rookie, Cobra Kai, Virgin River, The Witcher, Leverage: Redemption and School Spirits. She is looking forward to the long-awaited return of Bridgerton, is curious about the debut of Orphan Black: Echoes and the 3rd and final season of Sweet Tooth coming in June, and the season finales of the abbreviated 2023-2024 TV season.
