Web Series Spotlight: The March Family Letters

By  |

Back on November 24 of last year, the new web series The March Family Letters debuted online, reimagining the world of the classic novel Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.

In this new version the four March sisters share a home together while their mother Margaret “Marmee” March is an officer in the Canadian Forces. Jo March decides to create a video diary for their mother with the sometimes reluctant help of her sisters: Meg, Beth and Amy

The cast of characters for The March Family Letters includes:

• Jo March (Toronto actress Alex Kerr), the second oldest child, is an outspoken, independent tomboy and feminist with a passion for filmmaking. She is ambitious and stubborn; and it is her dream to make an action movie starring a female hero. Her blunt nature and quick temper often gets her into trouble.

• Meg March (Theatre actress Jessica Allen) is the oldest March sister, who is hardworking, materialistic, motherly and vain. She is currently working on completing a Bachelor’s of Engineering; and dreams of having a wealthy job and a wealthy husband so she can finally enjoy the luxuries of life.

• Beth March (Vancouver native Nicole Girt), the second youngest March sister, is a shy, compassionate, introvert who adores music. She is often the peacekeeper between her sisters and is always ready with a sweet treat if someone is feeling down.

• Amy March (Edmonton native Cassidy Civiero) is the youngest March sister, who is passionate, self-centered, kind-hearted and a wannabe hipster. She is also a talented artist and makes sure everyone knows it. But not too many people because that would be too mainstream.

• Laurie Laurence (Toronto actor Demi Oliver) is the charming, fun, dependable and intelligent young man who lives next-door to the March Sisters. After years abroad, he now lives with his grandfather who he doesn’t get along with.

• Joan Brooke (Canadian actress Alejandra Simmons) was hired by Laurie’s grandfather to act as tutor or, to be more precise, watchdog over the young man who seems to find more interest spending time with Jo March than in his studies.

The talented team behind The March Family Letters includes recent Ryerson University graduates Sarah Shelson, who is showrunner and executive producer, Lauren Evans, who is also an executive producer and handles transmedia and marketing and Megan Mackay, who is the director of the series along with writer-director Shannon Litt, a Toronto-based videographer and writer. Other writers of the web series also include Alex Shutsa and Alix Markman; and Kirstyn Hippe is the music composer.

The web series is a production by Cherrydale Productions in association with The Transmedia Zone at Ryerson University and The Independent Production Fund.

The March Family Letters can be followed at their official website, on You Tube as well as visiting their Facebook page. The web series is also part of Pemeberley Digital, home of the web series The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and Emma Approved (among others).

New episodes air every Tuesday and Friday.
