HART OF DIXIE: “Red Dye #40” {Recap}

Zoe and Wade are getting a nice night alone at the Rammer Jammer while the town’s talent show, but shortly after Shelby starts to sing “All That Jazz”, her throat acts up from the chocolate that she ate before. The entire audience and participants are forced to stay in the room while there’s an investigation.

That all happened before, however. We flashback to earlier in the day when Wade and Zoe are having a nice day in bed, where they can fully commit to being a couple. Even if the town doesn’t know about it. Lemon’s selling Fancie’s because she can’t find a way to make $20,000 in a day without Lavon’s help.

A town meeting brings out all the issues in town: Crickett won’t be going on with that firefighter because she’s still married, Tom and Wanda are having trouble with the baby and the goat. That’s secondary to why there’s a been a meeting: the city has a surplus of funds and is going to add it to the prize for the talent show.

So that’s why so many people were concerned when Shelby’s was taken ill. Did another participant want to sabotage Shelby?

Through the course of the episode, everyone else who might have wanted to hurt Shelby is questioned: Wanda, Stanley, the Truitt brothers and Annabeth. During all their questionings, they announce why they were in Shelby’s room.

Wanda had to fix Shelby’s costume because the goat ate some of it.

Stanley was making out with Sadie after he said he was unhappy with Shelby in the show.

The Truitt Brothers were keeping dry ice in the fridge for their act.

Annabeth was giving Shelby chocolate, but not any with Red Dye #40. She might actually want to because Shelby’s idea earlier in the day is to buy back Fancie’s and have Lemon run it with Shelby gone so often.

All the questioning is pointless because the chocolate hasn’t been tested. Too bad Zoe’s now in need to go to the restroom but the town’s still there.

Sheriff Will, upon hearing that the chocolate was fine, thinks that Lemon has done something.

Zoe’s been avoiding going and telling anyone because she doesn’t want to have people ask all the touch questions that are making her nervous – who is going to stay at home with the baby? where are they going to live?, etc. Just as Wade is telling Zoe that they’ll get through the questions, Zoe’s figured out who poisoned Shelby.

Lavon and Lemon have one more moment about what Lavon wants from Lemon, and just as Sheriff Will is going to take Lemon in, Zoe says that Rose accidentally poisoned Shelby because of all the cheese puffs she was eating before setting up the sound.

To the surprise of no one, Shelby wins the talent show, but what is surprising is that Shelby gives Lemon the prize money to keep Fancie’s all for herself.

AB will keep Lemon and Lavon from being together again, even if they might both want to try again.
