VIKINGS Preview & Interview: Bjorn Has a Love Interest. Gaia Weiss Joins the Cast

Gia Weiss who was last seen in Hercules, the Legend Begins, joins Vikings as Porunn. Porunn is a slave for the Lothbrok family who catches Bjorn’s eye. Will Bjorn fall in love, or is this youthful dalliance? What does Ragnar think about his son being attracted to a slave?

NiceGirlsTV had the opportunity to speak with the lovely Gaia Weiss and she was kind enough to fill us in on her character. She reveals Porunn has been  around for years as a slave to the Lothbrok family. She comes to our notice simply because Bjorn notices her. Porunn is a fictional character in the story of the Vikings whereas Alexander Ludwigs character, Bjorn, is based on reality.

The relationship between Bjorn and Porunn is taboo and a break in tradition. Slaves have no standing in the world of Vikings. Porunn has only known a live of servitude an brutality, as she was born in captivity when her parents were enslaved. When the Viking Prince notices her Porunn does not believe his intentions.

Weiss says every first day is stressful and her first day on set was no different as one of her first scenes was to take part in a dance in front of the cast. Regarding being onset, Gaia said “It was absolutely wonderful! Everything around you is just the Viking World.”

Gia describes her character as “complex and challenging.” She has always been a servant and in many ways even as a child she is already a woman. Porunn is fascinated with Lagertha.  One of the things Weiss learned upon researching the role is that Lagertha was a typical example of Viking women. “They were kind of the ruling women in the village…..her character (Lagertha) is not exaggerated.”
