If you are like Nice Girl Melissa and me, you try and catch every British program that becomes available, as soon as it’s available. But what if you could watch those great shows anytime you want? What would that be worth to you? Acorn TV has the solution.

Launched in July, 2011, Acorn TV made it possible to enjoy whose wonderful shows that were often aired on PBS and BBC America, in a streaming service online. In the following press release, Acorn TV announces expanded service with more options for joining this online experience.

Increasing its content by 200% since its launch in July 2011, Acorn TV, the first streaming service focused on the best of British TV, is now streaming 18 full seasons (up from six) of the best classic and contemporary British mysteries and dramas with different series added each week. Additionally, Acorn TV is now available to Canadian subscribers and a monthly subscription option of $2.99 has been added. Available at acornonline.com/TV, Acorn TV makes the company’s award-winning British series available to the increasing number of consumers who prefer to stream content. Additionally, Acorn TV frequently features episodes and programs not previously available to North American audiences.

The first episode of each of the 18 different series is available for free, and, for only $2.99/month or $29.99/year, Acorn Premium subscribers get unlimited access to all of the episodes in each selected season. On average, the site features more than 125 hours of programming per week. Programming for Acorn TV is refreshed weekly, with each season available for six weeks. Each week’s content rotates with three new seasons added and three removed. In addition, Premium members receive free shipping on all orders from Acorn’s distinctive merchandise catalog and website, www.AcornOnline.com.

Currently streaming on Acorn TV are full seasons of several of the most successful British drama and mystery series in television history: the iconic Upstairs, Downstairs; the U.S. debut of the second series of Vera starring Brenda Blethyn; Damian Lewis (Homeland) in The Forsyte Saga; the award-winning period detective series Cadfael, Murdoch Mysteries, Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Marple; Masterpiece Theatre favorite Poldark; The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes; contemporary detective series Blue Murder and Pie in the Sky; and Theodore H. White’s critically-acclaimed and timeless campaign documentaries, The Making of the President: The 1960s; among six more series. Additionally, Acorn TV offers a month long Foyle’s War Marathon with all 22-episodes of the universally acclaimed WWII detective series, which returns with new episodes in summer 2013.

On October 29, Acorn TV exclusively streams the North American debut of Midsomer Murders, Set 21, which features the first episodes with new DCI John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon).

I’ve enjoyed having the option of being able to watch my favorite Agatha Christie characters and other mystery series’ any time I wish. It’s also been great discovering new programs that I’d heard about. A favorite game I play is spotting actors in British shows that I’ve seen in current television and films, some of which we cover here at Nice Girls TV.

As a subscriber, I get to experience Foyle’s War, currently streaming the entire month of October. Other month-long marathons coming up are Midsomer Murders, Pie in the Sky, Rosemary & Thyme, Agatha Christie’s Poirot, and Doc Martin. I can’t wait!

Acorn TV is accessible on the top-selling streaming player, Roku, as well as computers, iPhones, iPads, Barnes & Noble’s NOOK Tablet, Apple TV and Google TV. It is also available on any portable device with a browser that has the most recent version of Flash. Could they make it any easier?

With all that Acorn TV has to offer, it’s hard to resist subscribing and enjoying all that British television has to offer.
