Monthly Calendar for August TV

Here is what you can look forward to seeing on the major and cable channels throughout August, including all the new shows that are debuting, the returning summer shows that are coming back as well as the finales for some of the summer shows, various specials and the new made-for-TV movies:

August 1 – The Protector will move to its new night tonight at 10 PM

August 1 and August 2 – The mini-series Moby Dick will debut on Encore at 8 PM

MINI-SERIES SYNOPSIS: This three hour reimagining of the classic tale will air over two evenings – August 1 and August 2, starring William Hurt as the infamous Captain Ahab and Ethan Hawke as his first mate Starbuck. They are joined by Gillian Anderson as Ahab’s wife Elizabeth, Donald Sutherland as Father Mapple, and Raoul Trujillo as the fear-inspiring harpooner Queequeg.

August 7 – The USA Network series In Plain Sight will air its summer season finale at 10 PM

August 7 – The ABC Family Channel movie Teen Spirit will debut at 8 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Amber Pollock (Cassie Scerbo from Make It or Break It) is the queen bee of Patrick Boone High School, and the only thing missing from her reign is the Prom Queen title. Having worked for years towards obtaining the crown and most popular girl status, Amber lets nothing and no one stand in her way. That bad behavior comes back to literally haunt her and others when a freak accident at Prom ends Amber’s short, nearly-perfect life and, facing an unpleasant after-life, she is given a task that could save her soul – to get the school’s least popular girl to be voted Prom Queen. The movie also stars Lindsey Shaw from Pretty Little Liars and 10 Things I Hate About You.

August 8 – The season finale of the new ABC Family Channel series Switched at Birth will air at 9 PM

August 8 – Part 1 of a two-part season finale for the new MTV series Teen Wolf will air at 10 PM

August 9 – Both White Collar and Covert Affairs will air their summer season finales on the USA Network at 9 and 10 PM respectively

August 12 – The new Cinemax drama Strike Back will debut at 10 PM

Show Synopsis: This 10-hour action series, based on the Chris Ryan book, stars Damien Scott (Animal Kingdom), as a charismatic former U.S. Special Forces operative who teams up with a British military unit led by Section 20 officer Michael Stone bridge (Philip Winchester from Fringe and Camelot) to stop an international terrorist group.

August 13 – The BBC America special Doctor Who: Best of the Doctor will air at 9 PM

Special Synopsis: Follow the current Doctor, Matt Smith, through an in-depth look at his very best moments. Join celebrity fans as they discuss their favorite moments from Doctor Who.

August 13 – The Syfy movie Doomsday Prophecy will air tonight at 9 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Jewel Staite (Firefly and Stargate Atlantis) and A.J. Buckley (Supernatural) star in this film where a book editor tries to prevent Armageddon.

August 13 – The Hallmark Channel movie Honeymoon for One will debut at 9 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Nicollete Sheridan (Desperate Housewives) plays an advertising executive who is forced to end her engagement to a philandering fiancé and then steps way outside her comfort zone when she decides to go on the idyllic honeymoon – alone. The movie co-stars Greg Wise (Return to Cranford) and Patrick Baladi (Mistresses).

August 15 – The conclusion of a two-part season finale for the new MTV series Teen Wolf will air at 10 PM

August 15 – The new ABC Family Channel series The Lying Game will debut at 9 PM

Show Synopsis: The series follows Emma, a kind-hearted foster kid who learns she has an identical twin sister, Sutton. Sutton, unlike Emma, was adopted by wealthy parents and is seemingly living an ideal life. After their initial meeting, Sutton talks Emma into stepping into her life for a few days while she pursues a lead on the mysterious identity of their birth mother. After Sutton inexplicably fails to return to the girls’ designated meeting place, Emma must decide whether to come clean about her identity and risk her own safety in the hope of uncovering her twin sister’s whereabouts, along with the truth about why they were separated in the first place. The series stars Alexandra Chando (As The World Turns), Andy Buckley (The Office), Helen Slater (Supergirl), Blair Redford (Switched at Birth), Sharon Pierre-Louis (Lincoln Heights), Kirsten Prout (Kyle XY), Alice Greczyn (Lincoln Heights) and Allie Gonino (10 Things I Hate About You). The series is based on books by Sara Shepard (who is the author of the Pretty Little Liars books).

August 16 – Memphis Beat and Hawthorne are expected to air their season finales on TNT at 9 and 10 PM

August 16 – The Nine Lives of Chloe King is expected to air its season finales on ABC Family Channel at 9 PM

August 17 – The new drama The Hour will debut on BBC America at 10 PM

Show Synopsis: This six-part edge-of-your-seat espionage thriller is set in the 1950s, starring Dominic West (The Wire), Romola Garai (Emma) and Ben Whishaw (Bright Star) who are locked in a highly competitive, sharp witted and passionate love triangle.

August 17 – The CMT movie To The Mat will debut at 8 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Ricky Schroder and Broadway star Laura Bell Bundy will appear in the first made-for-TV movie as part of the CMT original movie franchise that tells the story of a laid-back ex-wrestler (Schroder) who’s trying to keep his family’s down-and-out southern wrestling school above water. When his mother hires an uptight Wall Street consultant from New York (Bell Bundy) to help get the books in order, these two opposites must find a way to get along and save the family business.

August 17 – Law & Order: UK will return for another season on BBC America at 9 PM

August 20 – The BBC America special Doctor Who: Best of the Monsters will air at 9 PM

Special Synopsis: Look back at the Doctor’s most terrifying, unusual and iconic monsters as celebrity fans join in with their favorites.

August 20 – The original movie Trinity Goodheart will debut on GMC at 9 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Singer-songwriter Eric Benet, Erica Gluck (The Game) and James Hong (Zoey 101) star in the movie that is based on an original screenplay written by Rhonda Baraka. It is the inspiring and heartwarming story of a smart, independent young girl (Gluck) being raised by her single, free-spirited musician father (Benét). Finding comfort in creating decorative paper angels that provide inspiration to her and the patrons of Mr. Kwon’s Deli and Bookstore where she and her father work, Trinity begins to make peace with the fact that her unconventional father and her friend and confidant Mr. Kwon (Hong) may be the only family she ever knows. But when an angel visits and tasks her to find the missing half of a broken heart pendant that once belonged to her long lost mother, Trinity embarks on a mission to find her mom and uncover the truth about her parents’ complicated past.

NOTE: This movie will reair on August 21 at 9 PM and August 22 at 9 PM.

August 26 – The BBC America special Doctor Who Confidential will air at 9, 10:15 PM and 11:30 PM

Special Synopsis: Go behind-the-scenes of Doctor Who in these 15-minute episodes to meet the cast, production crew and other key people who play an integral part in making the epic series. This rare opportunity gives an inside look at the making of the most exciting season of Doctor Who.

August 27 – The Hallmark Channel movie William & Catherine: A Royal Romance will debut at 9 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: This will be the second movie to chronicle the romance between the future King of England, Prince William of Wales (Dan Armboyer) and commoner Katherine (now known as Catherine) Middleton (Alice St. Clair). Jane Alexander will star at Queen Elizabeth, Victor Garber as Charles, Prince of Wales and Jean Smart as Duchess of Cornwall Camilla Parker Bowles.

August 27 – The BBC America special Doctor Who Confidential will air at 12:45AM, 2 AM, 3:15 AM and 4:30 PM

Special Synopsis: Go behind-the-scenes of Doctor Who in these 15-minute episodes to meet the cast, production crew and other key people who play an integral part in making the epic series. This rare opportunity gives an inside look at the making of the most exciting season of Doctor Who.

August 27 – Doctor Who will be back on BBC America for the start of the final 6 episodes of the current season at 9 PM

August 27 – The BBC America special Doctor Who: Best of the Companions will air tonight (check local listings for airtime)

Special Synopsis: Join celebrity fans and the Doctor for an in-depth look at the best moments of the Doctor’s trusty companions Amy, Rory and River Song.

August 27 – The Syfy movie Killer Mountain will debut at 9 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Aaron Douglas (Battlestar Galactica) and Emmanuelle Vaugier (Lost Girl) star in this movie about a team of expert climbers hired to rescue a research team lost on the world’s highest unclimbed mountain.

August 28 – The Glades is expected to air its season finale on A&E at 10 PM

August 29: The finale of The Secret Life of the American Teenager will air on ABC Family Channel at 8 PM

August 31 – Royal Pains will conclude the first half of its third season on the USA Network at 10 PM
