Modern Family – ABC 9/8c
“Truth Be Told” – After reconnecting on Facebook, Phil invites his old high school girlfriend (guest star Judy Greer) to drop by the house, but this friendly visit quickly turns into trouble. Cougar Town - ABC 9:30/8:30c
“Counting on You” – Jules is determined to prove to Grayson that women and men can be friends without any sexual undertones. Ugly Betty – ABC 10/9c
“Fire and Nice” – To speed along the investigation into her house fire, Betty is pressured to date an annoying fireman, Jimmy (Rich Sommer, “Mad Men”). Wilhemina tries to prove to Don, an old flame from her past (Brian Stokes Mitchell), that she’s just “Wanda from the block” instead of an uber-bitch, and Amanda draws closer to Tyler, convincing Claire to hire him as an in-house model at Mode. Meanwhile, Hilda meets Bobby’s parents for the first time (Lainie Kazan and Nestor Serrano).

Psych – USA 10/9c – SEASON FINALE
“Mr. Yin Presents” – A killer targets Shawn using scenarios from classic Hitchcock films. Is Mr. Yang responsible? Ally Sheedy guest stars.

Spotlight On: Psych’s Maggie Lawson

March 10, 2010 by Tiffany

Working steadily since landing her first television appearance in the mid-1990’s, Maggie Lawson has been slyly scene-stealing for the past 15 years. After a string of guest appearances in shows like “Unhappily Ever After,” “Step by Step,” Cybill,” “Boy Meets World,” and “Home Improvement,” she began testing the feature film waters with appearances in the films “I’ve Been Waiting for You” with Sarah Chalke and Markie Post and “Pleasantville” with Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon.

Working around some top notch comedians and drama film stars only continued to shape Maggie into the engaging actress she is today. With a few more quick stops to appear in the cult favorite “Felicity” and the dramatic juggernaut “ER,” Maggie next landed a seven episode arc on the series “Party of Five” starring Matthew Fox (“Lost”) and Scott Wolf (“V”), as well as a role alongside Justin Timberlake in the film “Model Behavior.” With an eye for cool leading men, Maggie continued her lightening streak working on the television series “Inside Schwartz” with Breckin Meyer and a brief appearance in the series “Smallville” with Tom Welling.

Then, in 2002, after landing the lead role in the film “Nancy Drew,” Maggie went on to star in the films “Winter Break” with Milo Ventimiglia, “Spellbound” with Dave Annable and “Love Rules” with Joey Lawrence. She also managed to score the leading role on the comedy series “It’s All Relative.” Then, once it ended, she appeared briefly on the cult series “Tru Calling” which starred Eliza Dushku (“Dollhouse”) and Matt Bomer (“White Collar”), and the series “Crumbs” which starred Fred Savage and Eddie McClintock (“Warehouse 13”).

After her role on “Crumbs” wrapped, Maggie’s career hit the jackpot when she was cast as Detective Juliet O’Hara in the comedy series “Psych” alongside James Roday and Dule Hill. On “Psych,” Maggie constantly walks a tight-rope of playing both straight-guy to James Roday and Dule Hill’s hysterical antics and funny-guy to Omundson’s by-the-book Detective Carlton Lassiter. But it is a role she clearly relishes and plays with aplomb and humor. With “Psych” entering its 5th season, the show continues to dabble with the backstories of the characters and the slow dance to see if Shawn and Juliet will end up together.

In the meantime, Maggie has taken the opportunity to use her hiatus breaks to pursue a few film projects and starred in the 2-part Lifetime film series “Killer Hair” and “Hostile Makeover” based on the “Crime of Fashion” mystery books by Ellen Byerrum. Playing fashion reporter Lacey Smithsonian with a nose for rooting out murder, Maggie stepped outside the shadow of her comedic co-stars on “Psych” and has shown once again that she can light up the screen with both charm and witty repartee. Maggie is a rare gem that makes any television show or film for which she graces with her presence much more fun and fascinating to watch.

Watch our interview with Maggie at last year’s Comic Con, and catch Maggie in the season finale of “Psych”, tonight at 10/9c on USA Network. (“Psych” returns for its 5th season next summer.)

We’re adding Modern Family and The New Adventures of Old Christine to our Wednesday lineup because they feature hilarious women (and men) we can’t help watching.

The New Adventures of Old Christine – CBS 8/7c
“Sweet Charity” – When Christine and Barb find their business unexpectedly profitable, Christine undergoes a personal crisis – deciding whether to spend her share of the newfound money on herself, or follow Barb’s lead and give it to charity. Ed Begley Jr. guest stars as a pastor whom Christine turns to for guidance.

Modern Family – 9/8c
“Fears” – When Phil and Luke embark on a discovery expedition underneath the house, Phil tries not to let his fear of the dark and of creepy crawlies get the best of him. Meanwhile, Claire takes a nervous Haley to the DMV for her driver’s test, Manny’s sudden illness before a friend’s amusement park birthday party makes Gloria suspicious, and Cameron and Mitchell invite Lily’s pediatrician over for what turns out to be an anxiety-ridden brunch.

Cougar Town – ABC 9:30/8:30
“What Are You Doin’ In My Life?” — Laurie needs a co-signer to buy her first condo and finds her less than stellar, absentee mother (guest starring Beverly D’Angelo as Sheila) no help at all. Meanwhile, Bobby is mugged by a woman and Travis comes to Barb’s aid after her latest cosmetic surgery procedure.

Psych – USA 10/9c
“The Head, the Tail, the Whole Damn Episode!” – After Lassiter takes a page out of Shawn’s book and claims a shark attack victim was actually murdered, the guys must then scramble to find the fish and prove him right. Jeri Ryan guest stars.

Coming Out of the Olympic Haze

Between the Olympics hogging all my DVR space and handling the fallout from the last episode of Chuck, I feel like the last couple of weeks have been time warp. Now comes the run up to the crazy mad season finales in just a couple of weeks. Oh, and PaleyFest is going on right now – Nice Girls Louise, Tiffany and Rueben are covering the festivities – which always brings in fun stuff. Things I’m looking forward to in the next few weeks:

  • Chuck returns (tonight)!
  • The much discussed 100th episode of Bones.
  • Vampire Diaries returns.
  • Glee returns (finally)!
  • The Psych and White Collar season finales (next week).
  • Booking flights for Comic Con, Part Trois!
  • Some really cool TV-related giveaways we’ll be launching soon.
  • Did I already mention GLEE RETURNS?!

Welcome back, TV!

Who Was That Last Night?: PSYCH Edition

It’s been a while since our last “Who Was That” piece, mostly because I keep forgetting to make a note when I see a familiar face. Fortunately the guest stars on Psych this season have been impossible to ignore, so in honor of a new episode tonight, let’s take a walk down memory lane.

avoslooArnold Vosloo
On Psych:
He played scary/cool Mob boss J.T. Waring who Shawn and Gus visit in prison (and Shawn becomes slightly obsessed with) in “A Very Juliet Episode”.
Where You’ve Seen Him Before: In one of my all time favorite movies and its sequel, The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, as the dead guy in question. He also had a recurring role as Vincent, a Ring henchman, on Chuck last season.

sshahiSarah Shahi
On Psych:
She played Ruby, Gus’s secret, super-hot girlfriend in “Thrill Seekers and Hell Raisers”.
Where You’ve Seen Her Before: As Dani, Damian Lewis’s cop partner in the gone-too-soon NBC series Life. She also had a recurring as Jenny on Alias, and appeared in a couple of episodes of Reba, which starred another Psych guest.

showeySteve Howey
On Psych:
He played Derek Walker, the seemingly dim thrill-seeker whose friend is murdered in the appropriately titled “Thrill Seekers and Hell Raisers.”
Where You’ve Seen Him Before: As the seemingly dim son-in-law of Reba McIntire on the CW’s long-running sitcom Reba. He also starred in the web series CTRL alongside Tony Hale.

NUP_135031_0242Stacy Keibler
On Psych:
She played hot-to-trot adrenaline junkie Jessica, who was apparently too psycho even for Shawn, in “Thrill Seekers and Hell Raisers.”
Where You’ve Seen Her Before: The former WWE/WCW wrestler had a recurring role as Stephanie on What About Brian and placed third on the second season of Dancing With the Stars in 2006.

rpatrickRobert Patrick
On Psych:
He played General Major Felts (Say “General Major” out loud. You know you want to.) in the season opener, “You Can’t Handle This Episode.”
Where You’ve Seen Him Before: He famously took over for David Duchovny in the final two seasons of The X-Files and was the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. He also spent three seasons on The Unit. Watch for him on Chuck in a couple of weeks.

jcenaJohn Cena
On Psych:
He played Juliet’s big brother Ewan, a member of a secretive military branch in the season opener “You Can’t Handle This Episode.”
Where You’ve Seen Him Before: Unlike his female counterpart Keibler (above), the WWE and WWF wrestling superstar is just now launching his acting career with this guest spot and as the star of the movie Twelve Rounds.

Not bad for just three episodes into the new season. Still to come: Judd Nelson tonight and Jeri Ryan in 2 weeks! Thanks to TV Screencaps for the images.

Claire’s son Tyler (Neal Bledsoe) comes to New York to find her, and Daniel gets seduced into modeling. The fashion and the feelings are smoking hot, but the real flames are at the Suarez home, which mysteriously catches fire.
