RECAP: The 100 “Exit Wounds”

By  |

Things are getting even more intense – if that is fathomable – on The 100, as the Eligius prisoners, with some assistance from Kane, are plying the bunker inhabitants with much needed food to “encourage” them to defect, basically turning against Blodreina (aka Octavia). But naturally that attempt at recruiting goes very awry.

Here is the synopsis for the episode entitled “Exit Wounds:”

“Kane’s attempt to prove himself useful tests Wonkru’s allegiance to Octavia; Madi faces an unexpected threat inside Wonkru, forcing Clarke to make an unlikely ally.”

Blodreina

Octavia may have had control of the bunker for the past six years, but now that they are on the surface of the planet again, that control is slowly diminishing. But Blodreina is not going to relinquish that control any time soon even if Diyoza and the Eligius prisoners are not only dropping food into Polis [where they are beginning to starve] but also offering a chance at peace [like that is something that could happen?!] by stating they would retrieve any defectors, allowing them to freely live in Shallow Valley – the only habitable spot on the entire planet for which the Eligius survivors have commandeered.

When it came time for the drop ship to retrieve any defectors, though, Blodreina didn’t completely hold up the bargain she had struck with her big brother Bellamy and his lover Echo, who had been banished all those years ago from Polis. Blodreina had her right-hand woman Kara targeting the defectors had they fled for their lives, allowing only a few of them – including Echo – to survive the “pick-up.”

Echo

Given how much Octavia hates Echo – and is none too happy about her brother Bellamy’s involvement with that “traitor” – her time in Polis was going to be short-lived. Octavia gave Echo 24 hours to leave forever, but Bellamy was not going to let his lover go alone.

When the siblings fought, an injured Octavia was taken down by her brother, and an unlikely bargain was made: Echo could be a spy for Octavia in Shallow Valley, which meant she would be a defector. And while Bellamy believed Octavia would allow Echo and the other defectors leave Polis unimpeded, that wasn’t the case when the gunfire started. Echo survived because she became the mule, getting a junk drive onto the Eligius drop ship so it could work its magic: turning off the eye of the Eligius so that Octavia and her people could invade Shallow Valley and reclaim the land.

Monty

He was hopeful that he could find a backdoor to the “eye” on the Eligius main ship in order to shut it down, but that turned out less than fruitful. In fact, it turned out that it could only be shut down by someone on board the ship, which meant they had to get someone on board. And that someone would be Echo, who was able to sneak the junk drive onboard – even though personal belongings were pilfered by some of the Eligius prisoners – as Echo hid it inside a gunshot wound on one of the bunker defectors.

Clarke and Madi

In order to keep Madi’s background a secret – she is the last surviving Nightblood and “rightful” commander – they told everyone that Clarke shared her bone marrow with Madi after Praimfaya in order to save the young girl’s life. But Gaia, as the last Flamekeeper, figured out the truth about Madi – as did Clarke’s former lover Niylah – making it imperative to Clarke that she and Madi get out of Polis. But if the left Polis, they knew Octavia would end their lives; and if they were able to somehow get away from Polis unharmed, Clarke would more than likely lose her live if they reached Shallow Valley. In order to avert either of those possibilities, Madi went straight to Octavia, revealing the truth and became the latest “member” of Wonkru.

What did you think of the episode? Did you see Octavia being that duplicitous with her brother? Do you think Echo will be able to complete her mission? What do you think will happen next to Madi now that Octavia knows the truth? Please share your comments below.

The next new episode of The 100 will air on The CW in two weeks on Tuesday, June 19 at 9/8c.
