Good Witch Recap: “Match Game”

By  |

While the ladies of Middleton were trying to figure out the identity of the mysterious new guest at Grey House on last night’s new episode of Good Witch, Cassie’s daughter Grace was part of the planning committee for the school’s upcoming winter formal, which was taking all her time away from her boyfriend Noah. Also, Sam and Cassie set out on an interesting investigation.

The tagline for the episode entitled “Match Game” is as follows:

“A secretive dating app developer on the verge of a breakthrough checks in at Grey House.”

Mystery Guest

A new mystery guest took up residence at Grey House; and while Cassie, of course, knew his identity, the guest had made strict orders that he didn’t want anyone to know who he was or why he was there.

Naturally, Abigail’s curiosity over the new guest prompted her to deliver tea to his room – rather than Cassie bringing the tea to him. She learned that he is a business man developing on a new dating website based on an algorithm he has created. Phil, the business owner, is very secretive. In fact, he used a white board to map out his plans and then used elaborate online efforts to hide all the information.

Unfortunately, Phil’s dating website was stolen, and he blamed Abigail since she was the only one who saw his white board. But with a little research, Abigail figured out that a disgruntled former employee of Phil’s – who was using a remote-powered drone in the town’s park earlier that day – was the real culprit.

NOTE: Actor Sebastian Pigott played Phil, and he will be in next week’s episode as well. For those who watched the Canadian fan favorite series Being Erica, you will recognize Sebastian as Kai Booker.

Investigating Matches

Once Phil had his website ready to go live, he wanted to recycle all of the questionnaires used for the beta testing of the site. Before Cassie helped dispose of all that paperwork, however, she discovered that one of the matches seemed to belong to two people who lived right there in Middleton. She was able to figure that out based on some of the answers the applicants made on their questionnaires, describing specific places in town.

Cassie decided to attempt to track down the matched applicants; and Sam even joined her on the search because he became concerned for the woman applicant’s health based on details she included on her questionnaire.

They were eventually able to find the woman, even getting her to the hospital where she learned she had a treatable thyroid issue; but when they went searching for the man, it turned out that he married his soul mate. So much for soul mate matching, huh?

As it turned out, though, the woman and the brother of her supposed soul mate met up at the local bookstore and seemed to hit it off well. Not ironically, Cassie was right there at the bookstore in the background. Did the Merriwick magic help with this match?

Planning the Formal

The school’s winter formal was soon to happen and Grace was knee-deep in the planning stages. Her boyfriend Noah officially asked her to the dance, but all the planning kept getting in the way of their time together; and it almost threatened their relationship. Realizing that she could lose Noah over a dance, Grace showed up at his house instead of to the winter formal, so they could dance under the stars as they had originally wanted.

What did you think of last night’s episode? How fun was it watching Sam and Cassie figuring out who the matches in Middleton were? Did you enjoy Grace and Noah’s reconciliation? Did you expect Abigail and Phil to eventually hit it off? Please share your thoughts in our comments section below.

The next new episode of Good Witch will air on Hallmark Channel on Sunday, June 10 at 9/8c.
