RECAP: The 100 Premiere “Eden”

By  |

It’s been almost a year in the waiting for the post-apocalyptic series The 100 to return to The CW with new episodes after giving viewers a shocker of an ending last season. As those of us who watched that thrilling episode know, Clarke was inadvertently left behind on Earth because she ended up helping send her friends off into space to survive on the remnants of The Ark as Praimfaya decimated the planet and then the show time jumped SIX years!!

As the season premiere opened last night, viewers got a quick glimpse of The Ark before the scene shot straight down to the Earth, finding Clarke digging out of the rubble 42 days after the death wave.

The bulk of the episode was then focused on Clarke’s lone survival on the planet, digging out one of the Rovers, making her way to Polis where she attempted to dig down to the bunker – an effort that failed because of a cave-in – and her eventually ending up in Shenandoah where the Shallow Valley Clan lived. That is where she encountered a young clan survivor – a nightblood child – who was nearly as wild as any Grounder, tricking Clarke into stepping into a trap.

The premiere episode then jumped to that future time, finding Clarke and the young nightblood girl – named Madi – living as a pseudo mother and daughter team. Viewers also finally got to see their first glimpse at the survivors on The Ark – Raven, Bellamy, Echo, Monty, Harper, Murphy and Emori – who have made the best of a difficult situation living on The Ark where Raven has done everything she can to figure out a way to get a message down to the Earth, Monty and Harper are still a couple, Murphy and Emori are on the outs and – GASP! – Bellamy and Echo are a couple – it would seem it took him 3 years to forgive her, but they are lovers. Go figure!

The bigger issue, however, is that a new ship is on the horizon – literally – and a drop ship exited that main ship, heading to the Earth where Clarke and Madi encountered just two of the MANY prisoners – as clearly stated on the front of the ship as it landed in the small patch of Eden that was unaffected by Praimfaya. It would seem all of those prisoners are from Earth and their leader demanded to find out “what happened to our planet while we were asleep?”

Not to be forgotten, of course, are all the survivors in the bunker under Polis, which were briefly glimpsed at the very end of the episode, which featured an ugly cage match between two fighters with Octavia sat above the “ring” in what would appear to a throne of power.

The next new episode of The 100 will air on The CW on Tuesday, May 1 at 9/8c.
