National Volunteer Month Profile: Sophia Bush

By  |

April is National Volunteer Month, so we are showcasing a few of our favorite actors and actresses and their work towards bettering the world around them.

Sophia Bush is best known as Detective Erin Lindsay on NBC’s Chicago P.D. for four seasons and Brooke Davis-Baker on One Tree Hill for nine seasons. Coming up, she voices a new character in the much anticipated Incredibles 2 hitting cinemas in June and also has a talent holding and development deal with 20th Century Fox, which will see her see her star in a future pilot as well as executive produce and develop future projects. It’s also no secret that Bush is quite the philanthropist and activist, supporting an array of causes.

Bush is a strong champion of women, equality and education and some of the causes that she supports include the I AM THAT GIRL organization. The Girl Project (which she’s a global ambassador for), Pencils of Promise (she even built three schools with them), Planned Parenthood, PayPal’s Giving Fund, The Nature Conservancy, charity: water – that’s just naming a few. The list goes on! Her work has not gone unrecognized either – this month she was even named a recipient of the Nelson Mandela Changemaker Award at the PTTOW! Summit in California.

Changemaker is a good word to describe Bush. Follow her on social media and you’ll also see that she’s an eco warrior, constantly posting tips, products and recommendations on how to help save our planet. She’ll also share inspiring quotes and shout outs to other people doing admirable work in the world. As previously mentioned, Bush has helped build schools but also traveled to Uganda and done a lot of charity work there too. Even as a child, Bush was known for spending her weekends participating in beach cleanups. Giving back is very dear to her heart. “I think that reminding ourselves that when we give back it has a ripple effect, it creates impact in ways that are long-lasting — it’s the greatest thing I think we can do,” she told Livingly in an interview at the end of last year.

Bush is definitely a great example of someone using their star power for good and we can’t help but be inspired by her!

Be sure to check back in this month as we highlight other actors and actresses who use their platforms for good!

Ange is the Girl from Oz who travelled the States. Teen dramas, rom-comedies and superhero shows are her weakness. She also loves a good crime and medical drama and probably watches more TV than she can handle... You can contact her at ange@nicegirlstv.com.
