My Top 10 Choices for January TV

By  |

While we still have several weeks to go with December TV not to mention getting through the holidays, I thought it was time to take a look at just some of the programming options that will air on the major and cable networks in January.

Here are my top 10 choices for next month:

WINTER PREMIERES

The following shows will be back with their winter premieres:

January 2 – This Is Us on NBC at 9 PM
January 3 – The Blacklist on NBC at 8 PM
January 5 – Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC at 9 PM
January 8 – The Brave on NBC at 10 PM
January 12 – Blindspot on NBC at 8 PM
January 26 – Jane the Virgin on The CW at 9 PM

NOTE: It was announced today (December 12) that This Is Us will actually return on January 9.

NEW SHOWS

The following are the two new shows for which I am most interested in seeing on the small screen next month:

On January 3, the FOX drama 9-1-1 will debut at 9 PM. The series explores the high-pressure experiences of police, paramedics and firefighters who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations. The cast includes Angela Bassett, Peter Krause and Connie Britton [among others].

On January 16, Black Lightning debuts on The CW at 9 PM. The show stars Cress Williams (Hart of Dixie) as Jefferson Pierce, a retired superhero with electricity powers, father of two, and principal of a charter high school. Nine years after hanging up his costume, Jefferson suits back up after his daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) and his community are threatened by a local game. The cast also includes Christine Adams.

A RETURN AND A FINALE

The third season premiere of The Magicians will air on January 10 at 9 PM on Syfy while the two-hour season finale of The Gifted will air on FOX on January 15 at the special time of 8 PM.

What are you looking forward to seeing on TV next month? You can see the full January TV calendar for all dramas, made-for-TV movies and limited series that will air next month closer to the end of December.

Mark your calendars!
