Interview: The Tick’s Scott Speiser and Brendan Hines

Amazon’s reboot of The Tick is a smart, self-aware and decidedly irreverent send-up of the superhero genre. The Tick mixes laughs with real heart and terrific casting and has been one of the most awaited original series for Amazon thus far, scoring highest in the pilot voting of any series that they’ve ever proposed. For the uninitiated, The Tick brings us the story of Arthur Everest (Griffin Newman), a rather bland accountant whose claim to fame is that his father was killed by the supervillain The Terror right in front of him as a child.

Arthur is left seriously traumatized and desperate to prove that The Terror is not dead as everyone has been lead to believe. He is helped in this quest by an unlikely partner – the blue-suited titular character (Peter Serafinowicz)  – who literally drops into his life one day and drags him into the dangerous world of superheroes and villains as he tries to help him prove to the world what he knows to be true, and to “follow his destiny” as a hero. He is aided and obstructed by a cast of characters including his loyal paramedic sister, Dot, and Ms. Lint, a villain who is also looking for proof of The Terror’s existence, but for different reasons. The first half of season 1 is available now on Amazon Prime, with the rest to come in 2018. You don’t want to be the only one of your friends not up on Arthur’s journey!

There were many opportunities to enjoy the series to New York Comic Con, including a panel, press room and an interactive life-size Dangerboat replica on the show floor.

We got to talk with Scott Speiser (Overkill) and Brendan Hines (Superian)  to get their thoughts on season 1.

Watch the first half of season 1 of The Tick only on Amazon Prime!
