Women of the Week: Lennon and Maisy Stella

By  |

We are all about amazing performances by women on TV and some weeks there are performances we have to highlight.

Lennon and Maisy Stella as Maddie and Daphne from Nashville

Nominated by: Ange

Who would have thought that there would be an episode of TV this week that would reduce me to more tears than NBC’s This Is Us? It’s hard to believe right, especially since this week’s episode of This Is Us was pretty gut-wrenching. But alas, CMT’s Nashville had me way beyond the point of ugly crying and sobbing my heart out for at least a good 10 minutes after this week’s episode ended thanks to the performances of Lennon and Maisy Stella (and their co-star Charles Esten), which solidifies them as my Women of the Week picks for sure. Acting alongside such powerhouse players, you sometimes forget that the show is the Stella sisters first television role but it certainly won’t be their last. They knocked it out of the park this week, that’s for sure! Obviously that final scene where they say goodbye to Rayna and Maisy’s character Daphne doesn’t know what to say to her in those final moments and Lennon’s Maddie knows just the thing and starts singing ‘A Life That’s Good’, a song that Maddie, Daphne, Deacon and Rayna sang as a family back in season two (and a song that I am now never ever going to be able to listen to again without ugly crying), or at least trying to between sobs, pretty much broke me. Not to mention Maisy Stella’s brief solo of ‘Make You Feel My Love’. #feels. However, I’d also like to recognize more quieter moments in this episode from these two young ladies, like the scene where Daphne laments that her mom is the only one that cares and has always been there for her (aww baby!) and when often self-absorbed and hot-headed teenager Maddie realizes that all the things she’s been frustrated at her mother over in recent years, her mother has only done out of love. I’m hoping that this epiphany of Maddie’s has her heading in the right direction forward and not slinking back.

Nashville airs on Thursday on CMT
