ONE CHICAGO Women: Chicago Fire 5×06 recap

By  |

And then there was one (Chicago – sorry, I couldn’t resist). But seriously folks, with Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med both now on hiatus, it was up to the Chicago Fire crew to carry all the drama in NBC’s ONE CHICAGO world this week and they didn’t disappoint. Read on to find out what went on with the ladies of Chicago Fire this week…

Gabriela Dawson: Escaping minor traffic en route to a call,  Dawson accidentally hits a pedestrian while driving. Although they immediately respond to the victim on the scene, the patient falls into a coma and a lawsuit is filed against Dawson and CFD. Even worse, it looks like the ‘white shirts’ above her do not have her back in this case, causing Dawson to heatedly (and rightfully) lash out. She seeks big bro Antonio (who by the looks of it is now working for the DA’s office if his clothing is anything to go by, so it’s good to know that the timeline in the ONE CHICAGO world all lines up seeing as we saw him leave the Intelligence unit in last week’s P.D.) for help and he discovers that patient has a history of self harm and therefore may have jumped in front of the ambulance deliberately. On a lighter note, to take her mind off all the drama that is happening, Dawson asks Brett how things are going with Antonio and when she realises that her partner and friend has had sex with her brother, she regrets wanting to know.

Sylvie Brett: This week’s episode opens with Brett at Antonio Dawson’s door. She tells him she is a good girl – she says her prayers and donates a dollar every day to homeless guy. Antonio takes this to mean she’s a good girl who is saving herself for marriage. Brett tells him not a chance in hell as she undoes the coat she is wearing and drops it to reveal that she has nothing but lingerie underneath. As things get pretty hot and heavy on his couch (cos hey, who needs Sheets of Fire now?!), she admits to him that she really likes him and he returns the sentiment. About time guys! The next day, Brett is pretty happy and reveals to Dawson that the sex was pretty damn good, icking her partner out, haha. On the professional side of things, Brett has Dawson’s back during the whole hitting a pedestrian saga and confirms that there was nothing Dawson could have done to stop the guy from getting hit.

Stella Kidd: When Hermann shares his suspicions that he could be getting promoted to Mouch, Otis and Kidd overhear and are super excited for him. Whilst it wasn’t meant to be, it’s always nice to see the solidarity and support between the Truck team and the Firehouse. Speaking of support, after Dawson returns from being questioned about hitting the pedestrian, Kidd can see that she is still shaken up by it and gives her a hug for support. I do love the sisterhood between these two and it’s always nice to see little moments like this.

Maggie Lockwood: The Chicago Med head nurse makes a brief appearance when Truck 81 bring in a young woman who fell through a skylight. It was Hermann’s idea for the firefighters to bring her in themselves when Ambulance 61 get involved in an accident. Maggie tells him that his quick thinking saved the girl’s life.

Shout Out of the Week: I’m giving it to Dawson (Gabriela that is, not Antonio) for pushing back and standing her ground against her superior, who we already know does not exactly like Dawson’s feistiness, and also having the courage to approach the victim’s son to show him the files that prove that his father may have deliberately stepped out in front of the ambulance. One thing I admire about Dawson is when she handles her convictions in her beliefs with strength yet sensitivity.

Chicago Fire airs Tuesdays at 10/9c. Chicago P.D. airs Wednesdays at 10/9c and Chicago Med airs Thursdays at 9/8c, both shows will return in 2017, as will the debut of Chicago Justice. All four shows air on NBC.
