CONVICTION: Too Close, Too Soon {Recap}

By  |

Conviction hit hard this week and there’s no good way to talk about the case, or the outcome.

To be sure, the CIU tackles a case of an African-American woman who shot a Caucasian cop, especially after more racial tensions have arise in NYC. Dead cops, angry protests, discussions of what lives matter.

It’s on the nose for the national conversation, and after last week, the violence and hatred that the episode points to what we’re all feeling as a nation.

The episode left me raw, left me reeling and left me more frustrated with 2016 than I’ve been for weeks. Are we really the singular physical characteristics that are easily identifiable or are we a person with complicated relationships and backgrounds?

Porsha Williams fights for her rights, stands firm and is released by the end of the episode. But her conviction being overturned led to another death and in that death, I wondered this:

How does one live after a CIU overturned conviction? We see the work that they do, but the after?

Thinking of that is far easier than the substance of the episode. Right now that’s all I can do to get through the days.

Conviction airs Mondays at 10PM/9PM Central on ABC.

Despite her better judgment, she enjoys shows about the shallow sides of her home city, but will also find time to watch iZombie, Jane the Virgin, and much more.
