PITCH Pilot Review

By  |

In case you haven’t seen the commercials for the new Fox show Pitch the premise is, present day and the San Diego Padres have called up the first women to ever play in the league. Ginny Baker, played by Kylie Bunbury (Under the Dome, Twisted) leads the cast as the rookie pitcher, and she is fantastic.

I just finished watching the pilot and it was really well done. Pilots are hard. You have to get all this information out, set the tone for the show, introduce characters. It’s not easy. Pitch however set out all of the information needed in the perfect mix of drama and sweet.

Let’s start with the superficial first – The music was spot on and the cast is full of very pretty people. Mark Paul Gosselar (Franklin & Bash), Ali Larter (Legends) and Mark Consuelos (Queen of the South) to name a few.

Mark Paul Gosselar plays Mike Lawson the veteran catcher of the Padres. He is cocky womanizer, but he is also The Captain of the team and wants a World Series ring. He recognizes, after some prodding that Ginny may be the person to help him get there.

Ali Later is Almelia Slater Ginny’s publicist, manager, basically her Olivia Pope. She is there to make sure things get handled and money gets made.

Mark Consuelos plays Oscar Arguella, the GM of the Padres. He has the difficult job of managing the relationship between the owner and the Skipper and everything in between.

The show itself though is much deeper than some pretty faces. Through flashbacks you see how Ginny got to the major leagues and it is not all one big fairy tale. Now that she is here she needs to hold her own against a number of people that would like to see her fail, all while trying not to break under the pressure that comes with such great responsibility.

If Pitch can keep this going they will have a hit.

Below is the trailer, so check it out and be sure to tune in to the premiere Thursday September 22nd.
