Blindspot Roundtable: In Night So Ransomed Bridge

By  |

Blindspot is back! I have missed this show and they waste no time in reminding me why. Three months have passed and Jane is being held at a not so friendly CIA Black site. This isn’t what Weller wanted, in fact he doesn’t know. The CIA took her and wouldn’t give any answers. Enter super secret NSA operative, played by Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife). She wants Jane back with the FBI, she has been tracking the group who sent Jane into this mess in the first place. Luckily for them Jane manages to escape CIA custody and the FBI manages to recapture her. As nice as it is to have the team back together, things are not smooth sailing, lots and lots of bad blood. Hopefully they will find a way to make this partnership work.

Four CIA black site ops guys but Weller takes Jane down?
Leah: I found that quite unbelievable but at the same time I guess Weller knows her better.
Roz: Yeah, I don’t get how four CIA guys can’t take down Jane, but Weller can. Unless you count that he maybe knows how she fights and anticipates it better.
Rueben: Is it a case of Jane is just that good except when it comes to Weller? Simply put, as we all know, they had to show how tough Jane is that she can take those four CIA guys down, but that Weller and the FBI are better.
Cay: I don’t think it is that Weller is better than Jane. The CIA were not expecting that kind of resistance – they’d held her captive and tortured her for 3 months, they have to have let their guard down at some point. Weller on the other hand, not only knows Jane, but he had the element of surprise and a previous emotional connection with her – not only does he know how she fights, but despite everything that happened to her after he arrested her, there must be part of her that doesn’t want to hurt him, and that is what he took advantage of. Bonus that he didn’t come running in with guns blazing. Of course there’s also the issue that they needed Jane to get back with the team, but not in a way that made it seem like everything was all hunky doory.
Lisa: Right? If Zapata & Reade didn’t show up when they did she might have popped him

How will the team ever get back to any semblance of trust?Blindspot - Season 2
Leah: I don’t see how anything can be the same – ever. This is some pretty insurmountable obstacles. Can’t wait to see how they handle it.
Roz: There’s no way they trust each other in the long run, unless they’re all committed to some cause (now redeeming Mayfair) because the skeletons are buried deep in this one.
Rueben: I think it’s going to take quite some time for any of them to trust each other again. Jane kept too many things quiet, Weller didn’t open up to her enough. They all had secrets that they kept to themselves, for valid reasons, but each of those secrets has come to bite them in the ass. I can’t imagine that they’ll ever trust each other again, but they will work together to get vengeance for Mayfair.
Cay: I agree, they will work together for a common cause and will eventually start trusting each other again, or at least some of them will. Until the next hurdle is thrown in their paths.
Lisa: I don’t know. I feel like they are being really rough on Jane. I think Weller will have to soften first and the rest of the team will follow slowly

It wasn’t too long ago Zapata was being used and lying to the team. It’s amazing how fast she has forgotten that. She is pretty high and mighty now. I’m not saying what Jane did wasn’t wrong but the team, minus Reade, is being awfully judgey considering everything they did last season.
Leah: I was there for Zapata when she was being blackmailed by the CIA guy, but the way she is running her mouth about Jane and not wanting to work with her is just too much. Shame on her.
Roz: Given that someone’s a mole for Sandstorm, I’m leading towards Zapata right now, though I know in three weeks I’ll think of someone else.
Rueben: Yeah, near the beginning of the episode Zapata said “they” missed the tattoos and then did a complete 180 when the truth about Jane came out. It wasn’t right that Jane kept quiet about so much, but so did she. How is what she did any better than what Jane did? And, how about everything good Jane did while she was with the time. You can’t just point the finger at all the “bad” and not consider the good, right?
Cay: Zapata is a bit of a hypocrite and not just in this episode. I think she acted the way she did because she feels really guilty for her past issues and she sees enough parallels in Jane that she acts out at the reminder. Or maybe she’s the mole and she’s overdoing it to make it look like she’s not working on the same side as Shepard thinks Jane is working on.
Lisa: I agree. Zapata got on my nerves a little with her judgement this episode. I definitely think they are being hard on Jane.Blindspot - Season 2

Shepard and Roman told Jane things but not really anything. How much longer will she put up with little to no information?
Leah: If I were Jane I would be done. It wouldn’t make for a very good TV show but honestly, one more half truth and that would be it.
Roz: Okay so if Jane went most of last season on half-truths and little gold nuggets sprinkled here and there, I think Shepard and Roman can do the same. I mean, her own fiance lied to her how many times?
Rueben: I was glad we finally learned Jane’s origin story, but they (Roman and Shepard) are still keeping her in the dark just like Oscar did. Given how badly that ended (Oscar that is), how long is it going to take for Jane/Alice/Remi to start feeling that way toward them even if Roman is her brother.
Cay: I feel sorry for Jane, but it’s an interesting scenario – in some ways, she’s the victim, at least since she woke up in Times Square. But, we know that she was part of the whole plan, so she did it to herself in a lot of ways, she just doesn’t have that point of reference. It’s a really neat storytelling device that makes the show so unique.
Lisa: I think she’s at her wits end and has nothing to lose, so not much longer. She needs to know the truth now and I don’t think she’ll put up with it much longer.

On a side note – super excited Luke Mitchell is making an appearance – love him!
Leah: That above side note is mine so…..yay! Luke Mitchell!
Roz: LUKE! Only now it’s sort of weird that two people from the MCU are playing siblings now. My brain hurts thinking that through from one universe to another.
Rueben: I was very stoked to learn that Luke was going to be on the show, regardless of how short or long it will be; and I completely bought him as her brother. We shall see how dangerous he really is and what kind of relationship he ends up having with Jane.
Cay: I don’t have any particular association with the actor, but I like it as a plot twist.

Blindspot airs Wednesday 9/8c on NBC

Leah reads constantly, sing incessantly and watches TV what her Mother would consider an unhealthy amount. You can find her on twitter @IamPollyP or contact her via email at leah@nicegirlstv.com
