INTERVIEW! KILLJOYS Kindest Soul & Kick-Ass Technician, Aaron Ashmore, Talks Season 2!

By  |

KILL2_AAAaron Ashmore’s character, John Jaqobis is the very heart of Killjoys. John is the kindest soul and best technician in the universe. Those skills make him an invaluable part of a formidable bounty hunting team.

We recently had the honor of speaking with Aaron regarding the birth of his first child and all things Killjoys. Aaron was clearly delighted with the birth of his daughter on the 5th of June. When asked how he would feel if his child were in the Killjoys universe, Aaron agreed the Quad is not safe. “The Quad is a terrible terrible place for a baby.” While musing on the topic, Aaron predicted John would invent some kind of clever contraption to keep her safe and would most likely figure out a way to take her with him on missions!

“How is our team going to stick together ?”

In speaking about this season, Aaron was quick to warn, “We jump into Red 17 right off the bat.” “The circumstances that are happening in the Quad are tearing it apart. We really continue with that. How is our team going to stick together with all these insane things that are about to them?”

Killjoys does a lot of things very right especially when it comes to complex and intricate plots. Aaron readily agreed. “It’s the characters that draw everything in. The characters, the storyline, and the dynamic between them is really interesting to watch.”

Aaron admitted the stakes for our trio are off the charts this season. “There is no scene, no time where we are chill. It is very fast paced. there is so much going on, tons of information in every scene. They are always on a mission. They are always on guard. There is not a lot of down time. They ask a lot of you to be able to play all these things. It is a lot tougher.”

“We have Pawter, Alvis and Pree.”

KILL2_PreewteamSeason two highlights three favorite Killjoys supporting characters. “Now we are locked into a bigger story. That is what is driving the second season. A huge part of this season is really expanding on some of our supporting characters. We have Pawter, Alvis and Pree. We get to see more of their background (in our missions.)”

Khlyen also takes a crucial role this season.  The enigma that is Khlyen along with his relationship with Dutch appears to expand. “That relationship is very complex. In the first season we only saw one side of him, and we see so much more in the second season. It is very interesting to see that unfold.”

“Dutch is our main girl and the focal point of what brings these characters together.”

Not to be left out, the relationship between John, D’avin and Dutch goes through some trials as well. When asked about the trio, Aaron revealed there will always be some character development between the three of them. However, “Dutch is our main girl and the focal point of what brings these characters together. We definitely get a lot of really really cool backstory and layering with Dutch that people will find interesting.

Aaron also predicted Dutch and D’avin’s relationship will continues to grow. “I saw some interesting things going on between Dutch and Dav. There is a real friendship there. These two characters actually get to know each other.

Aaron admired his characters traits. “The one thing I really like a bout John. There’s hope in this guy. He’s always looking for the positive in people. He is always trying to help people. That is fun to play a character that is loyal to a fault. There is something admirable in that.

“The biggest fun this season was working with Thom. Michelle really opened up that character.”

Killjoys_gallery_201FunFacts_05Fellow cast members and show creator, Michelle Lovretta, received high praise. “The biggest fun this season was working with Thom. Michelle really opened up that character. There is more to Pree than meets the eye.” Co-Star Hannah John-Kamen also received a nod regarding her mad skills. “Hannah has a real gift for fighting. They (the show creator and writers)  ask a lot of her and she delivers. It has really been impressive.”

In closing, Aaron confessed to most looking forward to the last episode this season. “I am really excited for the finale. We worked apart more this year and is really fun to see the scenes you weren’t a part of. We put a lot of work into it and I am really excited to see final product.”
