Good Witch Recap: “A Perfect Match, Part 2”

By  |

The second part of the season finale of Good Witch aired last night on the Hallmark Channel, advancing the stories of the residents of the charming town of Middleton with the main focus being on the annual Light Festival – the biggest festival held by the town that not only brings in countless visitors to the town but also brings in a great deal of revenue for the town as well.

As we saw last week, the regular coordinator of the Lights Festival had to leave because of an illness in her family, putting Mayor Martha Tinsdale in a tizzy about what to do only to have Cassie Nightingale’s bewitching cousin Abigail (the new owner of the local floral shop) volunteer to take over all of the planning. Unfortunately, Abigail was not really holding up her end of the deal by not moving forward with any of the detail preparations for the big event. In fact, it appeared at the end of last week’s episode that the Lights Festival might have to be cancelled.

Just what in the world was Abigail trying to do?

Well, as we saw by the end of last night’s episode, Abigail was creating a crisis to make Martha “step up” – as she had wanted to do from the very beginning – subconsciously at least – but was a little too reticent to take on the task alone – and with a lot of “helping hands,” get all of the preparations for the festival arranged and have the event go off without a hitch.

Smooth move, Abigail, smooth move. For once she actually put someone ahead of herself (at least sort of). She did arrange for a fantastic fireworks display be the highlight of the festival; after all this is Abigail we’re talking about.

Elsewhere in the story, Nick has been contemplating going to London for a semester; but he has been wavering about whether or not to go especially once his dad finally gave his consent. In the end, he decided to stay home, but Cassie had another idea in mind. [More on that shortly.]

There has also been the ongoing issue of Tara wanting to have a baby. Lately she has been wanting to speak to her mother – who abandoned her as a baby – because she really needed to know why she left. Her mother finally called, but Tara’s husband Brandon answered the call. This is where things got a little complicated. Brandon, trying to protect his wife, didn’t tell her that her mother called; and because of not hearing back from her mother, Tara sent her mom an email saying she never wanted to be in touch with her again. Of course, when Brandon finally came clean about the call, Tara was understandably upset. This could, to say the least, create a big problem between the couple.

Now, back to Nick… Cassie finally made the decision to not go on the funded dig with her old college friend John, but she arranged for Grace to deliver a note to John at the Lights Festival. And it just so happened that Nick was with her (ironic, nope). During their conversation John revealed that he has a number of students joining him as interns for a few weeks and Nick just might end up be an addition to that intern pool.

Then there is the whole “will they-won’t they” relationship between Cassie and Sam. They tried to tell Nick and Grace about their burgeoning relationship but that imploded when Grace announced that Nick might not want to go to London. But eventually both parents were able to tell their children about their relationship, and both Nick and Grace seemed to take it pretty well.

But as we saw at the end of the episode, Sam received a call that kept him from getting to the Lights Festival as planned; and Cassie couldn’t reach him on his cell phone. Where is Sam? What was keeping him away from their planned rendezvous? How will this affect the start of a long-anticipated relationship between the two? I guess we’ll have to wait to find out. SIGH!

Good Witch will return for a third season on the Hallmark Channel, but an official airdate has yet to be announced.
