Gotham reincarnates villains with ‘Azrael’

By  |

Gotham unleashes a new villain this week who’s gunning for Gordon (who else?). Gordon breaks the law for the “right reasons” to build a case against Dr.Strange, Nygma becomes a master manipulator in Arkham and Bruce is constantly in the way.

Here are some other highlights from the episode, “Azrael.”

Peabody, on some level, is trying to be the voice of reason to Dr. Strange. While he wants to implant the patients with new personas for his own personal agenda, Peabody wants to hit them up with a heavy dose of drugs I can’t spell or pronounce. Even still, the drugs are a better idea than Dr. Strange unleashing more angels of death, crazy exes and delusional penguins out onto the streets of Gotham.

Cr: Jeff Neumann/FOXCase in point: Dr. Strange reincarnates Galavan as the new villain, Azrael. Dr. Strange feeds him some bull about being a hero and sends him out with one task, to kill Jim Gordon.

Bruce needs to turn down the sassy “concerned citizen” and resist showing up at the police station and other places he shouldn’t be. Looks like Alfred is slacking on his supervision duties. Bruce is fascinated when he sees Azrael leaping around an abandon warehouse. In his head, you know he’s thinking, “Yea, I can totally do that.” Azrael unknowing has become Bruce’s vision for the future Batman–the cape, mask, tight leather body suit and a mission.

Gordon thinks the answer to everything is a “bigger gun.” Barnes and Gordon take on Azrael at the police station, but they’re guns aren’t powerful enough. Barnes distracts Azrael while Gordon goes to find a bigger gun, and in the process, is stabbed with a broken sword. It is unclear by the end of the episode if Barnes is going to pull through. I hope he does. Somebody needs to keep Gordon in check.

Nygma forms his own version of an A-Team in Arkham to satisfy his curiosity of the hallway where everyone disappears. After finding a hidden elevator, he’s descends to a hallway of caged monsters. Maybe now he’ll just stick to the riddles in his head, not discovering mysteries.

Penguin hangs out at the house of death, watching the news. He sees Galavan on the news and starts to plot his revenge on the man who killed his mother. After all, he’s on a roll.
