5 Reasons Why We Love Mindy Lahiri

By  |
After four very long months, Hulu’s The Mindy Project  is finally back from its midseason hiatus. In honour of the show’s return to our screens today, we’re celebrating its heroine Mindy Lahiri because we have Mindy fever and we all know there ain’t no cure for that! (Mindy fans will understand that reference.) Here are our top five reasons why we love Mindy Lahiri:

1. She is smart and confident. Sure she can be shallow and acts like a 14-year-old teenage girl most of the time, but let’s face it – the woman is hella smart. She is after all an OB/GYN, which means she spent years studying at medical school. On top of that, would a dummy be able to open her own fertility practice on top of being a partner at a medical practice? Yeah, I didn’t think so. As for her confidence, anyone who meets Mindy can tell straight off the bat how confident she is and isn’t afraid to express what she thinks

2. She is one heck of a fangirl, just like us. One of my many favourite things about Mindy is how obsessed with popular culture she is. Whether it’s channeling her inner Beyoncé to project confidence, casually dropping in references to Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars during conversations, or making “Wreath Witherspoons” at Christmas, there is no denying that Mindy is a guru when it comes to the entertainment world. More importantly, she also understands how essential it is to keep up to date with television shows:

3. She has amazing style. Yes this reason sounds shallow, but let’s be real – how many times have you watched The Mindy Project and been envious of her bright wardrobe or the way that she can mix prints like nobody’s business. The show’s costume designer Salvador Perez (who also dresses star Mindy Kaling off-screen) is quite often customising pieces to transform them into one-of-a-kind outfits.

4. She loves fiercely. Throughout the four years of The Mindy Project Mindy Lahiri has had her fair share of heartache. Yet that hasn’t stopped her from bouncing back and continuing her quest for love in order to get her own happy ending that would rival the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan movies she loves so much. Things between her and fiancé Danny Castellano are on the rocks right now, but she still loves him as painful as it can be at times. It’s not just in a romantic way that Mindy loves. She also loves her son Leo and will do whatever is best for him (even if it means breaking away from Danny *sob*), as well as her friends and family, even if she sometimes has a weird way of showing it.

5. She’s flawed. To say she’s a drama queen is an understatement, she has no idea what it means to be quiet, she has a tendency to jump to conclusions, she’s impulsive, has no idea how to eat healthy to the point where she even sleeps with junk food in her bed – but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Mindy is real to the point where she feels like our best friend, flaws and all, and that’s all the more reason why we love her.

New episodes of The Mindy Project are released on Hulu every Tuesday.

Ange is the Girl from Oz who travelled the States. Teen dramas, rom-comedies and superhero shows are her weakness. She also loves a good crime and medical drama and probably watches more TV than she can handle... You can contact her at ange@nicegirlstv.com.
