PERSON OF INTEREST: Final Season to Premiere in May

By  |

This week was rather bittersweet for Person of Interest fans. We learned that season 5 will *finally* premiere on Tuesday, May 3rd at 10/9c and then will have new episodes every Monday and Tuesday at 10/9c until all 13 episodes have aired. Unfortunately this news came wrapped in the reality that this 7-week binge will be our last as CBS has officially cancelled the show. While the cancellation wasn’t unexpected – the late pickup for season 5, the 13 episode order, and then the delay in airing the episodes until a year after the end of season 4 all pointed in that direction  – it’s still hard to believe that such an intelligent, well-written show with ratings that many shows would envy, has found itself going out way too soon.

I guess if it’s any justice, the showrunners have promised us that these 13 episodes are going to be amazing and the finale will provide some closure as we’d expect from a series finale.  Maybe this will mean that they won’t kill off everyone as they’ve promised to do (jokingly?) for years because when the finale was written, they had to leave it open just in case the show was renewed.

Many shows go on well past their prime (e.g. seasons 8 and 9 of The X-files, the last 3 seasons of Bones…). Hopefully POI will go out on top and many new fans will be able to discover it on Netflix and in syndication.

Stay tuned between now and May for interviews with the cast and showrunners as well as other news.

Person of Interest returns May 3rd, at 10/9c on CBS!
