DOWNTON ABBEY: “Season Six, Episode Four” {RECAP}

By  |

The Carsons are off on their honeymoon in Scarborough, but it’s mitigated by Tom’s return. Tom wants to find something that isn’t solely about the estate, though.

Sergeant Willis is here to talk to Ms. Baxter about her former life and a Mr. Coyle who ruined her life. He wants her to testify against him. She agrees, begrudgingly, to testify because of all the other girls he ruined in his schemes.

The Dowager is also trying to bring in support for her side of the Hospital debate, even if Lady Shackleton might not be the best bet.

Lady Shackleton’s nephew turns out to be Henry Talbot from the last season. Hello Matthew Goode! You look very much like you belong here.

But this dinner party is going to end badly, not because the hospital discussing is going will for either side.

Lord Grantham’s body is not liking port, or much else it seems.

Lady Rosamund’s guest Mr and Mrs. Hardy prove a surprise, as Mrs. Hardy is Gwen from many years ago. Not that the family recognizes her, except for Tom. And then Barrow goes on with his mouth and gives away her secret. As soon as the story includes Sybil, the whole family brightens up at the story and the news. Trying to have Gwen’s secret made known for illwill isn’t something Lord Grantham likes. Why can’t Barrow seem to work out his own life without ruining it?

Anna’s pain from earlier is about the baby and now Mary and Anna are off to get it looked at and corrected before Anna loses another baby. Operation successful and news shared with Mr. Bates, hopefully she can keep it this time.

Daisy’s frustration about the farm and Mr. Mason comes to a head when she comes into the drawing room to try and make a cast, but they had already decided it before she got a chance to say her peace. She didn’t get to yell, but she does get what she wanted after all.

Anna’s need for surgery does get Mary another date with Henry Talbot where she admits that she has a job and a passion for the work. She’s not sure if she’ll play the game of his chasing her, but she’ll enjoy him trying all the same.

Downton Abbey airs Sundays at 9PM Eastern/8PM Central on PBS.

Roz lives in the Los Angeles area, and has been a long time California girl. Despite her better judgment, she enjoys shows about the shallow sides of her home city, but will also find time to watch iZombie, Jane the Virgin, and much more. With a love of history, she also watches anything that is grounded in real life, including Victoria and black-ish. Having worked with children, she also follows shows she knows they watch (reminding her of those days of yore for her in the process). Contact her at roz@nicegirlstv.com.
