New Year’s Resolutions

By  |

The Magicians

Since I joined the staff here at NiceGirlsTV back in 2009 (I can’t believe I’ve had this cool opportunity for almost 7 years now!!!), I have been writing an annual list of my New Year’s Resolutions that either included recommendations for folks to consider adding to their own resolution list or things that were for my own list.

This year I’m going for a combination of both along with a few other “things”:

Shadowhunters

Recommendation for Readers: I would like to invite our readers to check out the new sci-fi/fantasy shows The Magicians on Syfy (debuts on January 25), Shadowhunters on FreeForm [formerly ABC Family] (debuts on January 12) and The Shannara Chronicles on MTV (debuts on January 5).

Each show is based on a book: The Magicians by Lev Grossman, The Mortal Instruments (Shadowhunters) by Cassandra Clare and The Elfstones of Shannara (The Shannara Chronicles) by Terry Brooks.

The Shannara Chronicles

Each series has its own unique story: The Magicians is about Quentin Coldwater, a young man in New York who discovers and attends a college of magic. Think of it as a very adult version of Harry Potter without wands. Shadowhunters focuses on Clary Fray who learns on her 18th birthday that she is from a long line of human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. The Shannara Chronicles is set thousands of years in the future, following an Elf-Human hybrid, an Elvin Princess and Human Rover warrior as they try to stop an evil Demon army from destroying the world.

Each show features an attractive cast (just look at the pictures featured in this article), lots of cool special effects and, hopefully, an interesting story to tell. Make sure to watch each of them to judge for yourself.

Outlander

Addition to My List: It is my goal to read more of Diana Gabaldon’s books from her Outlander series of novels. I have, of course, already read the first two books because of the Starz TV series for which I have become totally obsessed with since the show debuted back in August of 2014. I have to wait, however, until season two of the show has fully aired all of its episodes because I don’t want to get too far ahead in the novels in comparison to the series.

Sleepy Hollow

Recommendation to the Networks: First of all, to the folks at FOX – please, please, please fix what is wrong with Sleepy Hollow. The show was amazingly entertaining in its first season despite its over-the-top theme, but since then it’s been a mere shadow of what it was. Please do something about that! And, for the folks over at ABC – please put Kate and Rick back together on Castle. We’ve dealt with them being apart long enough and the fans are just tired of this separation storyline. Caskett fans deserve more and so does the show.

Castle

What are your new year’s resolutions for 2016 for yourself? What would you like to see the networks do in the new year? Do you have any recommendations that you’d like to share with the rest of our readers? Please share below
