WOMEN OF THE WEEK

By  |

We watch a lot of TV so we see a lot of great performances by some very strong actresses. Every week we get together and pick our favorites from the week in TV.

See who we picked below:

Mindy Kaling as Mindy Lahiri in The Mindy Project
Nominated by Angela: For the last two weeks, Mindy Kaling has been my pick for Woman of the Week. We all know that she slays it as a comedic actress, but she doesn’t get nearly as much recognition as she should for Mindy Lahiri’s more vulrenable and serious moments. Yes The Mindy Project is a comedy, but Kaling proves that Lahiri is just as compelling and relatable in the more emotional moments, as we saw these last two weeks with Mindy standing her ground against Danny during their fights about her being a working mom. The scene in this week’s ep where she tells him during their fight that she wished he wasn’t so easily able to list all her flaws off the bat, almost broke me. With next week being the mid-season finale, I’m sure there’ll be another standout performance from Kaling!

Tovah Feldshuh as Deanna Monroe on The Walking Dead
Nominated by Karen: An amazing run on TWD as she went from the completely out-of-touch Leader of Alexandria to reluctant convert to the New World Order. She went out after being bit when the wall came down, and knowing her time was up, she went out with what can only be described as a warrior’s cry and a hail of bullets through a crowd of Walkers. RIP Deanna.
BEE TEE DUBS – Tovah was classy as hell on Talking Dead. Showing that she did push-ups in her down-time on set – and sitting next to Kirkman (creator of TWD) asking WTF? (essentially)

Shanice Williams who made her big debut as Dorothy in The Wiz Live
Nominated by Lisa: A star was born on that stage! She was adorable and had a beautiful voice. She held her own with veterans like Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige & Stephanie Mills. What a magical performance! She’s one to keep our eye on for sure.
Nominated by Melissa: I’m with Lisa. Even if this had been a week packed with new episodes of our favorite shows, I think Shanice Williams would walk away with all the glory. What a performance!

Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones on Jessica Jones
Nominated by Leah: Jessica Jones is a dark, serious, crazy, delightful, funny show and that is in large part due to Krysten Ritter. She is killing it as the broken hero.

Leah reads constantly, sing incessantly and watches TV what her Mother would consider an unhealthy amount. You can find her on twitter @IamPollyP or contact her via email at leah@nicegirlstv.com
