BLINDSPOT Round Table: Persecute Envoys

By  |

Blindspot was all new last night and we gathered to discuss it. Before we get to our thoughts on the episode let’s cover the basics.

The anagram of the title tonight was “Suspect everyone” That gives us this so far:

“Woe Has Joined” (alternate title for the pilot): “Who is Jane Doe?”
“A Stray Howl”: “Taylor Shaw”
“Eight Slim Grins”: “The missing girl”
“Bone May Rot”: “Or maybe not”
“Split the Law”: “Will the past” or “The past will”
“Cede Your Soul”: “Cloud our eyes”
“Sent on Tour”: “Trust no one”
“Persecute Envoys”: “Suspect everyone”

Tonight’s episode found the team hunting a cop killer in Brooklyn. Along the way we find out a little about Zapata’s past – she was NYPD before she lost a partner. Mayfair gave us the rundown on Daylight – it was an unsanctioned NSA program that they manipulated to capture very bad men, but it came at a very high price.

Kurt and Jane shared some longing looks and Patterson, Zapata and Jane had a nice girls night out. Oh and they caught the killer (of course). Turns out it was other cops trying to cover up their blackmail ring. A ring they were running using the footage from their body cams.

Did anyone else wonder where the body cam footage from the officer who was shot went? Wouldn’t that have just shown the shooter?

Roz: I’m thinking that the footage was altered by the 65 before the team saw it – since the Captain was involved as well, he had himself to protect, as well as his own ass.

Leah: I just think it was odd that it never came up. No one commented on missing footage or a, ‘Why can’t we see the shooter?’ Maybe they cut that conversation from the episode for time?

Cay: With as non-securely stored as the footage was, I don’t think we can take anything at face value. An interesting commentary on a potential issue with body cams.

Lisa: Yes! I totally thought about that. I was surprised that it wasn’t addressed because it was such an obvious solution.

Who thinks Zapata and Jane would be the cutest best friends (minus the tattling to the CIA part) ?

Roz: Jane needs some positive female friends and if it can’t be Patterson, it might as well be Zapata. At least they both have troubled pasts, even if Jane doesn’t know that about Zapata.

Leah: I loved the bonding between the gals. I just hope Jane remembers her own advice that someone is more than their mistake when she finds out about Zapata.

Cay: It was nice to see Jane get out and have some fun with other women. I loved the look on Patterson’s face when she confessed to sneaking out. Yeah, the whole tattling to the CIA part does put a downer on things, for sure.

Lisa: *raises hand* Me! I am so team #Japata or #Zapane (they both sound weird). It was nice seeing Jane be somewhat normal. I just hate it for Jane when she finds out Zapata sold her out.

BlindspotDid Daylight disappointment or live up to the multi-episode build up?

Roz: It didn’t disappoint, per se, but it wasn’t what I expected. It’s good for the show to confound and confuse use – especially since they have another season after this one – in ways that will make the reveals interesting and different.

Leah: Last night I was a little let down. This morning though I realize it was more a telling of Mayfair’s involvement and her moral issues with it than it was a bombshell they were dropping. It’s far from over so I assume more will come up.

Cay: I liked the glimpse into Mayfair’s life, but Daylight didn’t excite me. I do think the change in the relationship between Kurt and Mayfair could well keep coming back later in the season (and next season now that it is announced that the show got renewed for season 2).

Lisa: Meh. I wasn’t disppointed but I thought there would be more to the story. Maybe their still is!

Who wants to see more flashbacks into Mayfair’s life?

Roz: I do! I want to know much more about her. Her life with that Presidential officer was so cute, even if it turned out so poorly for the two of them.

Leah: I for sure do. I love seeing peoples backstories/personal lives.

Lisa: I definitely do! I’m all about flashbacks (I wasn’t crazy about her wig hee hee hee). I want to see more Jane flashbacks too.
