Weekly Update

WOMEN OF THE WEEK

By  |

Here at NiceGirls we watch a lot of TV – obviously. We don’t always agree on or take away the same things from the shows we watch but this week two characters really resonated with us.

I give you our Women of the Week:

Out of this World
Elizabeth Henstridge from Agents of SHIELD
Character Name:  Jemma Simmons

Nominated by Liz: This week’s episode was all Jemma and she was fantastic. I don’t know about anyone else, but I felt each emotion she went through after her arrival on that planet. What a performance!
Nominated by Angela: I’m with Liz – It was great to see Jemma Simmons get a meaty storyline and Elizabeth shine in it. Simmons has always been the sidekick and smart girl, but this week we saw much deeper layers to her, and more importantly, we saw her as a warrior as she fought to survive. Her breakdown when she lost hope that she’d ever make it back home broke my heart. I hope that she does find Will, and more importantly that he ends up being who he says he is.

Up, Up and Away!
Melissa Benoist from Supergirl
Character Name: Supergirl/Kara Zor-El

Nominated by Karen: In her debut week, she embodied girl-power by finally embracing her super powers and saving the citizens of National City. Kara diverted a plane about to crash, fought off crazed Kryptonian criminals, and stopped a bank heist. In her personal life, she’s starting to go from wallflower to emboldened woman who knows her place in this world. She’ll have help in the form of James “don’t call me Jimmy” Olsen, who sparks with her like nobody’s business – and her sister Alex, but other than a slight push in the right direction, she’ll get there on her own. It’s nice to finally have a hero that will inspire young women everywhere to be secure in their “girl-hood” – and that’s a good thing.
Nominated by Melissa: I second Karen; Melissa Benoist is terrific as Kara. Can’t wait to see more!

Zombie Courage
Rose McIver from iZombie
Character Name: Liv Moore
Nominated by Roz: …for going after what she wants (her man!) and maybe getting him.

Halloween Antics
Melissa Fumero from Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Character Name: Amy Santiago
Nominated by Leah: She managed to beat Captain Holt and Jake at their ridiculous Halloween wits challenge. Everything about Brooklyn Nine-Nine is great but Melissa always shines as Amy.

Leah reads constantly, sing incessantly and watches TV what her Mother would consider an unhealthy amount. You can find her on twitter @IamPollyP or contact her via email at leah@nicegirlstv.com
