Weekly Update

WOMEN OF THE WEEK

By  |

It’s that time of week where we get together to look back at this week in TV and pick our Women of the Week.

Queen of Comeuppance
Adelaide Kane from Reign
Character Name: Mary, Queen of Scots
Nominated by Rueben: After discovering that her mother-in-law Queen Catherine was working with Queen Elizabeth of England, Mary and Francis devised a plan to retrieve Catherine, bringing her back to France where she was placed inside a wooden cage next to the Bengal tiger owned by the pirate who was paying a visit at court. Mary didn’t even bat an eye while Catherine was forced into that cage and berated Catherine about her abhorrent behavior. It was a cold and calculating move that Queen Catherine would have done herself and it was chilling (albeit quite fun) to see play out.

Mother of the Pack
Phoebe Tonkin from The Originals
Character Name: Hayley
Nominated by Angela: Hell hath no fury like a mother scorned! When Klaus dares to question Hayley’s decisions and skills as mother, Hayley attacks him, already fuelled by anger that he cursed her and the other werewolves back to animal form save for one night each month during the full moon. You can feel the anger and desperation at having missed so much of her daughter’s life as Hayley beats against Klaus and cries at him. Then when she notices her daughter Hope, who is now walking, all that anger and frustration just melts away and she tears up at seeing her daughter and witnessing this milestone. Phoebe displayed many different emotions this week, which is why she is my pick for Woman of the Week.

Ray of Sunshine
Ashley Williams from October Kissdownload
Character Name: Poppy Summerall
Nominated by Melissa: I waxed poetic about Williams’ performance in my preview of October Kiss but it’s so good, I had to mention her again in this round up. Her warm, lively, funny portrayal of Poppy in this Hallmark Channel original movie is one of the best I’ve seen all year, and she makes it look so easy!

Formidable First Lady
Bellamy Young from Scandal
Character Name: Mellie Grant
Nominated by Leah: Scandal is Kerry Washington’s show, we all know this, however week after week Bellamy Young is the best part of the show. She can go from conniving to vulnerable in the span of one scene. Her portrayal of the First Lady is why I continue to watch.

Leah reads constantly, sing incessantly and watches TV what her Mother would consider an unhealthy amount. You can find her on twitter @IamPollyP or contact her via email at leah@nicegirlstv.com
